Don't fret, it's only a 500.

However it's not a Sport model as no such thing ever existed in E32. SWB 750s had sports seats as standard, with a no-cost option of the usual comfort seats found in iLs and six/eight cylinder models.

Heated, extended leather was also a standard feature of the V12s, as it also was in E38 and has continued to be through E65/F02 with twelve cylinder engines so far as I'm aware.

It has had what would have been standard equipment EDC deleted, one part of what makes it a "sporty" spec, as opposed to the standard, more comfort oriented passive damper of non-V12 Sevens, the ability to switch it between that and a more controlled mode is actually a large part of the appeal of them for me.

The 17" ALPINA wheels were an option from the factory, an upgrade from the standard 415mm metric Style 5 wheels and Michelin TRX tyres and I'd stick with them, the tyres you can fit will be of better quality and possess grip/traction levels that we're more accustomed to.

It's a lot of money to be asked for a 100k+ mile example, my ~70k one in more original condition than that fetched not far off a couple of years ago, the 135k mile one struggled to get close to a grand. If this one has a non-Emmental tank and the bodywork is as rust free as claimed, then I could see value in it at high £2ks, maybe early £3ks at a push.
This is indeed the top quality beardage I was looking for. My E38 skillz are sadly inferior.

Chaps, saw this 500 SL in the classifieds on here...

A fair bit over thread budget (sorry) but this looks good and seems to have very low miles for the year:

Short advert but it sounds like it's very well maintained... A classic in the making, set to appreciate?

In other news, I bought a new barge this weekend past, picking it up on Saturday all being well. A little outside thread budget, but 18 months-2 years ago it would have been within its remit...
Do tell! You can't leave it at that

Possibly. But if that were the case then, lovely though that 124 looks, there's an equally lovely looking E39 Alpina B10 3.3 Touring manual currently available that I would look at first.

"Second owner in 10 years".

Which is almost as long as he's been trying to sell it at that price.

Very strong money IMO. Low mileage on a car of that age isn't necessarily something I see as a good thing. I'd prefer a regularly used car that had all the failure points and maintenance addressed.

There are plenty of good looking ones around the 5K mark. I've seen some 96/97 cars with similarly low mileage and pan roof for around 7K recently and to be honest I'd prefer a car with the 5 speed box.

It looks nice though.

edit to add: for that money I'd have liked to see more detail of work done over the cars history, tyre brand/condition etc etc. Guy is a PHer it would seem so perhaps he'll see this?

Thanks chaps. I had seen some cheaper ones but this seemed lowest in miles and sounded like it may be more 'ready' than the others I had seen in adverts. We all know how much a service with all those plugs etc can be!

I didn't notice that he was a PHer... Perhaps he will read this and update the advert and I am guessing there is haggle room if he knows the guys in here wink

Thank God!
Years ago a friend's dad had a 560 SEC and he was allowed to drive it on occasion. We felt like Arab sheikhs. Even though it was Swansea....

My point? The dealers just do not have the margin to sort these cars properly.
You're spot-on there. If you prep a car to the standard everyone expects, the car will be too expensive. If you don't it's hard to justify any premium

There still are decent cars out there that justify their prices, but there are a lot of cheaper ones that are incredibly over-priced once you add prep costs

The black estate is £6500

This one looks good, suitable plate, reckon it'll go above estimate though.

Ugh.

Personification of car as female. "She" indeed.

No lady I've ever met hitches her skirt up as quick as this, nor as fast, or as high.

Tut.

Hearty congratulations! The youngest BMW that makes me do the 'Huurrrrrrrr' noise through my nose. Other things more recent (which are not BMWs) that provoke the same noise include Rachel Riley and the MV F4.

It is a beautiful car. Probably the best on sale in the UK.

I'd love to sell 124s like these guys sell 123s: http://www.mercedesmotoring.com. I think you of all the dealers come closest. If that isn't too brown-nosey. Presumably, despite the armchair enthusiasm of us lot on here, in reality there are very, very few people actually willing to shell out 12 grand for a perfect, as new 124?

This is my favourite in the world right now and it's only €10,000: http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/mercedes-benz...

Thanks for returning to the fray and responding.

Despite all that we've discussed, £6500 doesn't seem especially unreasonable for that car retail, especially if punters know what they're looking for/looking at.

Does that sort of figure scare people off? Any reason you don't publish it on the site?
