Their 'supercharger' is claimed to give 50% charge in 20 minutes. This is the projected network in 2016:

My highlands trip would have not been possible, but for most people a 300+ mile range is far more than they ever need.
I think the development of Tesla is fascinating and they make a compelling case. However, as I understand it the retail cost will be such, even with attractive finance/incentives, that until this technology and engineering standard filters down to family car levels, many will still just think how much fossil fuel they can buy with their money over several years instead.

I'm probably still sceptical about the rate at which electric will be adopted in the mainstream but certainly I think we are in the final throes of the ICE. At least we can tell our children about the days you could buy a 5 litre V8 petrol burner for the price of a charging pack!

Grab these barges while we can!

I'd agree - our kids will be amazed that daddy had a metal box with a big lump in the front with explosions in it frown

I'm actually surprised how cheap even the current models are (£70k for the one I drove) compared to most modern luxury cars. They have a £25-£40k in the model in the pipeline apparently...

Anyway, anyone got any 1-5 barges to post? I've been looking for nice old mercs but can't find any tempting ones that have not been posted here before!

To take a tangent off a tangent, as a result of my inadequate attempts to explain to my three-year old how an engine works, every time a motor cycle goes past he exclaims, "motorbike on fire!"

Loving this thread - my first contribution is slightly over budget @ £5.5k, but could possibly be haggled in? Is that allowed?

Seriously considering going to see this one. Views?

Trying to explain to my 20-something age colleagues at work (who all drive 4 cylinder diesels) about the inherent harmonic balance of a straight 6 engine is hard enough.

Nice. These are immensely fast and smooth if a little clinical. The engine is a joy. BMW did NA engines which were leagues apart from anyone else's. Now they don't.

Of course haggling is allowed: it's probably on page 1 of the man maths textbook.

All this AMG chat, currently up the North west coast of Scotland with the e55 (w210) the roads are just fantastic, think I passed one car heading south to Ullapool, the 5.4 n/a is a total joy, makes a lovely noise when pushing on and provides mountains of torque across the rev range. Even fully loaded makes for very brisk overtaking.
The 55k in w211 form would seem a natural progression perhaps in a few years. The chap I bought the w210 from had bought a 55k, he did say he very rarely got to exploit the 476bhp, only been in one briefly and it was an absolute monster.
Lovely, get us some pictures - a great part of the world for driving. When I get my W124 back (I, er, lengthened the to do list with the garage, and will be away this weekend!) I will be back there. I'd like to try the 5.4 NA, I bet it's good fun.

I have come very close to cancelling the BMW I've ordered to switch to a Tesla P85D, but if I ordered one today, it wouldn't arrive until at least July. I can't even get a drive in one until February. If I do drive one and am completely blown away by it, I will have a big dilemma on my hands!

I got my nephew the Haynes 'build your own engine kit'. Highly recommended for teaching kids how engines work.

"Heading south to Ullapool" means you are about as far north as you can get! Any excuse to post the Kylesku bridge picture below. If you want any recommendations, let me know. We're heading up there tomorrow in the diseasel. Even in that car, the roads are a joy. In fact, part of the enjoyment is keeping up the pace in a car with so little power. The Tesla wouldn't suit me just yet.

As always, an interesting array of cars within thread budget at Barons next auction.
http://www.barons-auctions.com/entry.php?pageid=93... Scroll down to Prestige and Modern Classics and they have a 4.2 Audi A6, various Jags and Mercs (but no BMWs which is unusual). What I really want is the classic F1 simulator…

Guys,

got back to my E280 wagon at the train station yesterday to find a note on my window. Someone was seen siphoning fuel from my car, made off when approached, in a green Ford Focus estate V906xxx.

The fuel cap is missing and the flap will now not close properly having been forced.

Totally depressing that probably hundreds of pounds of damage has been caused in order to nick £30 of fuel.

Bugger.

As a train station car park, it will surely have CCTV. It's a crime, so report it to BTP. Quite possible there'll be footage of it happening and reg numbers of the vehicle it was siphoned into.

Also: s.

The *45i engine is a peach - I have it in my 745i (which, coincidentally, is for sale in Scotland within thread budget, but I digress hehe) but there is one major consideration: the potential coolant pipe leak. Google it and you'll see that it's a 50p seal within the engine that goes and BMW will take several thousand quid off your hands to fix. There is a cheaper fix but still over a grand. Of course it might not happen to you, but if you can find one where it's been sorted already you are protected against it. Did I mention that I had the issue with my 745i and had it fixed at great expense? But I digress again hehe

Well for the information of anyone interested, a man is bringing a CLS63 AMG to my house this afternoon to see if I like it. If I do I may buy it from him. It's this one: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...
Oh that does look nice. Wheels not my cuppa, but aside from that, these cls/e 63's are really floating my boat at the moment. I'd live to hear a full and detailed appraisal if you'd be so kind
Again for the information of anyone who's interested, I liked it and am going to buy it driving Gave chap a deposit and will get it in a couple of weeks once he's got his private plate off it.

fkers, really sorry to hear this. I doubt they will but hopefully the s will get found.... Or at least get a come-uppance.
s. There's a lot of them about and they all drive. Just look around next time you're at the motorway services. It's fairly staggering: the effort involved in syphoning a jerry can of fuel surely cannot be worth it? I mean, if you put that much effort into, say, work, surely you would get more out of it. fking s.

Anyway, hopefully it won't be too bad. The lock is just the vacuum element (about £40). Then there is the cap (about £12) and the flap (which hopefully can be made good again).
