One of the attractions of a larger car was the kids not kicking the seat back!

They are more than capable of reaching my seat in the W211 as it happens, so just as well have gone for the Golf!

Although it's bloody relaxing to drive, comfy and with a surplus of power (did I mention that lol); perhaps I will gel with it in time.

I guess I could buy a cheap hot hatch to complement the E500...

That's the car.

E500s have been posted in the thread already, recently a silver 2003(ish) estate with a mileage well into six figures. I'd seen a lovely looking car of similar age up for around £6k with (IIRC) 70,000 or 80,000 miles on it. It was mid-blue with a blue leather interior (link below) and AMG five spoke wheels. It looked a lot nicer than blue on blue sounds. It sold before I was ready to buy and also I wanted a newer car to avoid some of the problem areas on the pre-facelift and, primarily, to benefit from the 388hp/390lbft motor (the earlier cars had 306hp/c.350lbft).

4WD and 4WS aren't they? Not very handsome from the outside, but the interior looks nice. Pretty much guarantee you'll never see another unless you work at a Honda dealer too. biggrin
Just been having a read and apparently they steer and handle brilliantly too. Hmm.
Never seen one either...slap a cheapo number plate on it and 99% of other motorists might deduce you're in a new car.

First time I've seen a car fitted with a specific floor mat over the transmission tunnel, too. But then the Japs do like attention to detail.
My W210 has an OE 3 piece rubber mat set in the rear. First time I'd seen one.

I'll admit that I knew nothing about them really, but the price was too good to pass up. Looked around online and every single owner review and comment was unfailingly positive, which I've never seen before! biggrin the only issue seems to be a bit if a thirst, but i'm coming from an XJR and a 750i, so it's all relative...

Cheap as chips but blue seats/carpets and walnut!silly
If that was local to London I'd be tempted to have a look. Would have to see that interior in the flesh though.

I think the interior looks great, but then I like both wood and blue leather.

RE the Legend, did anyone notice the instrument cluster pic: the fuel guage is just under half full, and the digital range readout states 86 miles! eek
I've often put this down to a wierd shaped tank cross section; in my Bora the first third of a tank (indicated on the gauge) gives 300+ miles, the second third normally about 150 miles with the last third being about 100.

Definite good call. I think I may fancy one of them next.

Less to do with tank shape, more to do with a logarithmic scale.

The Mrs has a 4-cylinder and it's a pretty magnificent car as a do-everything machine. Only things to watch out for are making sure the tyres are worn evenly across all 4 wheels. If you run them low on the front/rear you wind up the centre diff in the auto box causing premature wear.

Performance on the OE Yokohama Geolander is absolutely fantastic, the perfect combo of ride, off-road ability and handling.
