I'm definitely going to buy one at some point, probably a 500 just for a change from a straight 6 in the W124 (though the W124 needs finishing first).

I've met quite a few senior people recently in the W124 and it always gets good comments and is a conversation starter. The suspension refresh knocked 120k off it - it seems so much newer and composed.

I still need to sort the aerial, then some kind of transmission/engine refurb (to be decided) followed by paint. Though I still like the way it looks now from a distance... from this morning, the suspension has definitely settled from how it was:

Looking good Oa!

Another one. Local to me. Low level trader, by the looks of things. Lovely colours. Small engine, zero spec, still looks nice. Presumably 2.5 bags would secure.

Surprising as it sounds, I don't think I've ever seen a Smoke Silver R129 on this thread. Plenty of rarer colours like Bornite, but not Smoke?

In other news, the C126 finally passed MOT last week, so now it can legally sit in the driveway for 99% of its time and travel the 6 miles return to work once a week. But it's tomorrow!

There's a lovely looking pale met green early 500SL on Ebay at the minute for very little £. Probably a dog but I'd love it just for the colour.

Hey, great news on the 500 SEC. I thought it would never happen!

Did you clock this 124 the other day? Right up your street, I thought: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-BENZ-200-SALOON...

And you jest about smoke silver 129s in this thread?

Hello R129!

Yes C126 MOT'd (no advisories!) and pressed into service after 14 months. But 'pressed into service' means 1 day per week at 6 miles return, whereas 'the daily' (the R129) has to cope with 2 days per week X 6 miles!

All other mileage at the minute is done in the Jazz, with dog.

Apologies if I've not spotted other illustrious 'Smoke' R129s - yours is 744 Brilliant isn't it?

Saw that early W124. Lots to like, but manual and 4 cylinder for £6.5k? No! I will someday soon pay way above market price for a pre-Sacco saloon with 6 cylinders in the right colour with the right interior - but that isn't the one.

When I do, what will my 'daily' be? The R129? A facelift W124 320 5 speed coupe? A 230 SLK? A Suzuki Alto?

My mechanic has a supplier that did them in Edinburgh - I have been very pleased indeed (I had to get one redone after a very embarrassing incident with a misplaced granite kerb in Jedborough driving south, it matches perfectly. I just leave the car with him for such things. Happy to pass on the details.

Always good to know, need to get the wheels on my Integra done in the spring. If you could PM me the details, can never have too many good garages on the list.

I might have a potential barge bargain- a 1999 S320 petrol in silver 86k miles, absolutely immaculate condition with full Mercedes service history and 12 months MOT. Its the LWB business edition too. A friend needs the space and hes going to give it to me for £900. Now i know its not the S500 but surely for £900 i cant go wrong can I? This has got to waft along like no other?!
I'd love that!

That stereo is potentially the very early sat nav system with arrow based turn by turn directions. Anyone with a bigger anorak than me care to confirm?

Correctamundo on the stereo, it is the APS4 made by Blaupunkt and branded Mercedes. No idea whether it is any good—compared to your Tom Tom, probably not—but a nice touch and cost an absolute bomb at the time.

My 124 just keeps going. It has the winter wheels and tyres on now. It has been flawless over the last 20,000miles (which it has done in 7 months). I'll do an oil and filter change this weekend (I picked up some half price oil from Eurocarparts yesterday and I keep an oil and fuel filter in stock). I bought a NOS driver's mirror glass as well, mine is a bit blotchy.

There must surely be a catch with these cars.. Horrible maintenance costs or something?
No the idea is that you talk me out of it biggrin

Just seems too good to be true at those prices.

Yes its definately the built in sat nav too...also includes electrically operated rear "desk" but strangely only on the passenger side!

The owner would sit that side while 'James' (other Chauffer names are available) would drive him home.

E38 iL's with the rear seat package have controls for the front passenger seat in the rear armrest.

But a leccy table is pretty damn cool.
