As title really - are there any niffty devices that can get a car in the air / off the ground other than 4 / 2 post lifts?

You could always try an exhaust Jack...
But I think there quite a lot more than a a conventional trolley jack in price..

Single-post moveable. Ordered one, but not got it yet (recommended by a friend).

Not exactly cheap, but very flexible.

At the moment I'm using one of our forklifts with extended arms.

a)Dig a pit.

b)Park it over a drainhole and work from the inside the drain...

Get some breeze blocks. Lay on their sides, pile up into two ramps shapes, one for each side of car, work under car?

Having spent some time recently crawling under the car I must say, that is feckin awesome.
