What a Dog Egg review. He drives a TVR as a daily but cant cope with an Evora and comments on ergonomics.....Jesus Christ.

Is PH sponsored by Porsche or something? There is some serious Porsche dick sucking/anus snogging going on in the car review world.

Do they get a reach around each time PH puts 'id choose the Cayman' in any of their articles?

I don't get these 'buy a Porsche' articles, has no one got any imagination left any more?

How about 'buy a Ginetta G60' article... Hell no that's just not Porsche enough FFS

Piston Heads is quickly becoming Porsche Heads.

I always enjoy this Clarkson review of it from 2010 on top gear. Quite balanced. Apart from the SAGA lout bit...

Rocketride - I agree. Fed up to the back teeth and completely bored of silver/grey/black Porsches.

Far too much modern Porsche on PH.

After having an Evora S (are you sure the one written about is a 'racer'?) with my other half for a couple of months now, we have used it daily with no issues.

It does have reasonable luggage space, and if you go for the storage net option instead of back seats, you get even more. We have used it for shopping (only issue there are morons in supermarket car parks), general trips, long distances and even for going to the airport on holiday - suitcase and hand luggage catered for.

Visibility is fine, use the wing mirrors! Most spec even come with reverse cameras for the stereo/satnav system.

All in all amongst other point it is:
British - highly important in my books
Extremely well engineered
Comfortable - seats, ride and noise levels
Superfast and handles
Gorgeous

Each to their own, however, I agree with many on here that PH have done a poor unjust review.

Ditto on the BMW and 'Bigi' pushing (can NEVER call those abominations a Mini). PH lost masses of cred with me after their promo Bigi van choice.

Definitely.

I doubt any of us are here for the articles, though.

Thought he made a pretty good case for the Cayman, sound reasoning, arent people entitled to their opinion - especially when clearly and refreshingly explained?. Lotus should address the points made, or should not have made them in the first place.

But here's my dilemma. If it was a fun car that you rolled out of the garage for Sunday B-road fun that would be fine. But it isn't, it's a car that makes claims to be daily-driveable and not just for high days and holidays, so that means it must be compared as such to rivals.
40,000 miles in 2 years in my old S and currently up to 8,000 miles since Feb in my current one.

The buttons and visibility you get used to after a couple of weeks, the only things IMHO that are continually a problem are the awkward (but bigger than it looks) boot meaning no hard cases, and access in tight spaces.

Yes a Porsche is more practical and more modern inside, but all of the most important parts of a daily drive like comfort, reliability and running costs are equal or better.

Ollie, don't you find the price tag somewhat difficult to swallow? Things that could make the car feel much more finished, are lacking, button layout, final fit and finish and stereo being a casing point.
To me it's TVR quality or slightly poorer which is a shame.
Still to me has not fixed the Europa problems. A 'neither' car.

Seriously, have you ever driven any of these cars? Are you a real buyer for any of these cars?

I've driven them and I've spent my cash on them. I don't care who makes a car so long as it's a great car. I bought the best car of the bunch for my requirements - and by happy coincidence was also the cheapest.

IMO people have been watching Audi for too long and become accustomed to the "range" being one car in seven sizes.

I buy on the basis of what I think of the car - not who made it. The fact a manufacturer has some dogs in its range (Mini Countryman? X6?) doesn't stop me looking at the rest of their stuff. There are some Porsches I wouldn't touch with your money!

The early cars might have been top end TVR quality but the newer premium interior cars are great. Personally, in terms of ergonomics, unless something regularly used is difficult to reach from the seated position I don't care!

I bought mine (normally aspirated) as an ex-demonstrator with 4k on the clock for more or less 10k under list. At that price I could have had a new Cayman with a couple of options.

I felt the compromise used for new was fair as from experience I find basic Porsches pretty joyless. It would have been a more sensible car but if I was going to be sensible I'd have spent the cash on a Discovery that would have been far more comfortable and practical for my usage with similar running costs.

As I wanted to spend a significant chunk of my week driving around in an interesting car rather than a dull one, having something that drives better at the expense of being 90% as practical didn't seem like a bad deal. As a bonus, it's still interesting and fun enough to enjoy as a weekend car!

We know the case for the Cayman and every other Porsche model that's my point...we get it rammed down our throats on every video, article, forum post etc.

Here is an idea, try recommending something else.

I'm with the Rocket, every time a thread comes along talking about a Lotus car it simply HAS to be compared to the latest mass produced, hugely developed Porsche. sleep

Give me an Evora any day
Enjoy

It's worse than that. Every new Lotus gets unfavourably compared to a second-hand Porsche in terms of value. Tedious.

So tiresome.

However it was refreshing to read 'I'd buy a Cayman' rather than 'you should buy a Cayman' for once. For PorscheHeads you have to consider this progress.

For as long as I prioritize driver feedback, steering feel, ride and handling I'll remain on Team Evora.

The day practicality, visibility, minor switchgear (and other things you never think about when you're really absorbed in a drive) become more important, I'll skip past the Cayman and get a fast hatchback.

I want a fast car to take the mundane out of the daily grind. The Cayman is a fast car with added mundane. Isn't the whole point of a sports car supposed to be a two fingers to practicality and common sense? Isn't that what makes them fun?!

If the Evora is 'a more special place to be' and more 'exciting to look at' these are not small things for cars of this type. In terms of value to an owner, they are worth far more than cup holders and the like.

Terrible terrible terrbile write up, perhaps the worse I have read on Pistonheads.

Test drive new Lotus and concludes looks really nice, little mention of the actual driving, negative remarks regarding visbility (unless Garlic is a dwarf I dont see how this can be an issue) and ultimately rejected as a vehicle proposition on the grounds of lack of interior storage space for a phone & wallet, FFS!
THE CAYMAN ONLY HAS 2 SEATS!!

That means on the Evora you can use one rear seat for your wallet and the other for your phone, interior storage problem fixed.

Whilst I think people are being overly harsh on the article, after all it is only one man's opinion and claims to be nothing more, I do find it odd that all motoring journalism these days seems to assume that a car is either for fun or for practical transportation; when did the idea of having fun whilst driving for a useful purpose vanish?

I have great fun on my commute; I would have nowhere near as much fun if I was commuting in a Cayman. I probably wouldn't have as much fun in an Evora either, for that matter, but that's besides the point - I'd never willingly buy a car that I didn't thoroughly enjoy commuting in. For me a fun car and a good daily driver are one and the same thing.
