After owning a e91 330d for a year, then a lovely e90 330i I hankered for a m3 but instead listened not to my heart and bought a 335i. Well after 5 months I just keep looking at m3's and so tonight I stuck my 335i up for sale on pistonheads.

As nice as a 335i is it's a wolf in a 320d clothing it just doesn't stick out or have the presence of a m3. Pretty excited now as I have made a decision so can start looking and hopefully get one lined up...

Good luck, sounds like a nice upgrade.

Agree that the M3 just looks that much more special, but I do actually quite like the 'q-car' aspect of the 335i, especially in estate form. Can be a lot of fun catching folks unaware...

The price seems about right from what`s on the market at the moment I think, will you go saloon again for the M3?

I love the M cars, they have something about them.
I'm so so jealous of one of my workmates.
He has had an E46 M3 for the last 6 years, and he always asked, where do I go from here ?
I always said to him M5 V10.
He always said no,no,no its a big heavy car..
He eventually turned his train of thought and got a V10 M5. Lovely car and sound.
Not that I can't afford either one, I'm still stuck in family transport mode, and I go out mountain biking a lot with my son so an M to cherish isn't quite there yet ( as in my family powered E91 has a slight dent in the roof after dropping a bike on it missing the cycle carrier brace, and other family abuse)
I know they do a V10 E61 but I cannot stand the look and shape of an E61.
I don't think an M will be forthcoming in the near future either as with my son getting older he is getting more interested in downhill mountain biking( way out of my confidence level these days)
Probably pop the M cherry when hes old enough to drive and abuse his own car with mucky bikes.

I'm actually in a different boat but the same place of that makes sense???

I have two little ones and a family estate. I got the 335i saloon because it seemed the more sensible and still fun car. However we barely use my car for the family as the other one has all their stuff in it so an m3 coupe will be fine smile

FWIW, I think the ad is very well written; really stands out and I think your backstory i.e. the reasons for selling helps: makes you sound genuine and an enthusiast.

I am saving towards an E92 M3 but just to rule it out, I had a test of a 335i saloon. I was impressed and did prefer it to the M135i I drove back to back with an M3 last year, preferred seats and the steering, but it falls way short of the M3. You are so doing the right thing and I wish you luck.

The car I drove was a AUC N55 60 plate around same miles as yours, good spec and a manual (my preference). It was on at 16750£ if that helps with your benchmarking.

Thanks, will take that into consideration!

It truly is a very nice car, I just wished that I had listened and got the m3 rather than make a compromise if you can call a 335i that lol... It's not a 320d by any stretch of the imagination but it's not an m3 either smile

When I bought this car it didn't have the alpine upgrade fitted, which after parts and fitting cost nearly £1k. There were a few teething issues as the fitting instructions were wrong but they were sorted immediately as I'm passionate and also have a mandatory OCD as a car enthusiast smile

Not a sniff, getting impatient even started looking at e46 m3. Just dropped the price as well this week, got an email from some asking if it was mine and if was for sale. I obviously replied but got nothing back... frown

It's up on pistonheads and is the only 335i lci available privately. Will send you the link as it's an auto and a saloon with high specification.

I have a look out on the AUC website from time to time just to see what has come on and that Red M3 looks fantastic and at a very good price as well. I also think the 18inch wheels really suit the colour as well.

Congratulations you'll love the car just remember to set the M Drive to maximum, push the button and have fun!!!!

Yep the wheels are my preferred choice and in that colour the car looks amazing. Looking forward to Saturday and seeing her for the first time smile

The only thing it's missing is heated seats. Can these be fitted and if so at what's sort of cost?

I went to look at a really low mileage example in Shorpe when I was looking to buy mine and it didn't have heated seats but the dealer said he knew a company that could fit them for around £300 I think he said but in the end I just ended up buying one with a few more miles on but with heated seats.
