Last year I discovered one of the best ways to spend the Easter weekend. We spent the nights in Brussels, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The idea was not to have a driving holiday per se but have a relaxed drive each day, and then drinks/going out in the evening. We stopped for lunches at Brugge and Antwerp to shorten the journeys and do some sightseeing.

I didn't realise just how big france was so I think going to Italy (my original plan) is out of the question if we want a relaxed drive.

Can anyone recommend a good 4 day route around France? Or even comment on doing Strasbourg - Basel - Zurich (is there much to do on this route?!)

How much are the road tolls - should we budget for these?

Cheers

You could go to Normandy to see the preparations for the 70th anniversary of D-Day

+1 Brittany has a lot of good roads as does the Loire valley. No need to travel far. thumbup

strasbourg is definitely worth a visit, but its quite a drive. I did a road trip last year based around the belgian grand prix. The drive from brussels to strasbourg was about 3.5 hours driving. I did a detour driving up to Baden-baden ( nice town, good stop for a lunch) and a section B500 Freudenstadt in the black forest. I eventually drove to Andermatt. Basel would be a nice stop, you could also look at Friburg if you end up going towards switzerland

Thanks for those suggestions. What would you suggest doing in Strasbourg or is it just a good place to chill out?

Dinner by the little locks and weirs in the centre of the town. Love eating in Strasbourg: French quality and German portion!

So the plan is to spend the first night in Nantes (stopping off at Le Havre for lunch). And the second in Reims (stopping off in Orleans for lunch).

Reims I hear is the best place in the region to go out for a few drinks/maybe a club. Otherwise just looking to relax and chill out.

Strasbourg is a bit off the way for a 3 day trip and ideally I'd couple it with Germany & Switzerland.

I think its a sensible choice, if you head that way for 3 days, you'd spend most of the time driving

Reims is nice, make sure you go and see the old GP circuit and stands, well worth a visit and be careful where you drink in the central sq in Reims. You can pay 10 euros a beer.
Enjoy yr trip smile
