Cheers Pesty, I was going to put some further comments on it in my original post, but got a snotty mail from a mod once for putting some technical content in on a Glock thread; Pistonheads didn't need input like that apparently or some such rebuke, can't remember hehe

You're right though, and a few weeks at Gunsite ranch wouldn't hurt the production values of a few films I can think of.
I bet you get annoyed by glocks with clicking safetys and constantly racking slides toosmile

Snake Eyes by Brian De Palma.

I wonder how many takes for that opening?

Yes. Top film and opening. Lots of one shot scenes if I recall.

I thought the opening sequences for the Star Trek reboot were pretty awesome. James Kirk's birth amidst a massive battle and his father's suicide to an instrumental score was pretty amazing. smile
This.

The music is stunning as is the sound use by reducing most of the othr effect sounds so your watching carnage set to such a gentle classical score.... right until your jolted back to reality when your with the Father as he hears his baby cry for the first time cry

The following conversation between George Kirk and his wife is so utterly heart wrenching and seems so real and honest. Very well acted between the two of them crycry .

From the opening sequence of the U.S.S.Kelvin flying past the camera to the main Star Trek logo appearing on screen.... just the perfect way to start a movie.
Couldn't have put it better myself. It's my number 1 opening to any film, even better than Top Gun but only just.

For me, number 1 is the brilliant classical music overlaid opening to 'Casino' - superb opening for a superb film. Scorsese at his best. Agree with many of the films already mentioned in the thread i.e. Inglorious Basterds & Saving Private Ryan (the beach landing). I've also always liked the opening to 'Point Break' - the surfing interspersed with Keanu letting rip with about 5 million rounds of ammo on the range smile

Not sure if been posted already, but the opening scene of Casino royale, mostly deleted from the release, I think is great

Yup. The film both my father and I sat in uncomfortable silence when I was a young fella and just knew the pretence to my mother that we were watcing it because we both like sci-fi was stretching things a little.
