Regardless of your view on the referendum, the Union Jack has no place at the Commonwealth Games as the UK is not represented there. Instead the component countries of Scotland, England, Wales and NI are competing with their own flags - not the Union Jack.
Some spectators may wish to show support to all the athletes of their nation rather than just a region of the UK. Obviously this will not be the case with your 'Anyone but England" nationalist lot.

The organisers have no problem with people waving them.

This be true - some 'sassenachs' like me actually have ancestry from all over the UK - so in effect, the union flag is probably the best flag to represent the people I would be cheering for.

I think that is one of the most ridiculous statements yet on these threads, and the competition is fierce. If you really believe that, then you are indeed a tragic character.

The games are being held IN the Scottish part of the UK, It is the perfect place to have a union jack combined with the saltire.

Does the Florida based swimmer who has been suspended indefinitely from his college team have a vote?

A true patriot hehe

Pretty sure I heard some whistling when one of the English swimmers received her silver medal.
If that was the case I'm very disappointed.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's even funded by UK athletics or the UK lottery too! That would found that story off nicely smile

i think he's actually serious when he says the union jack is just as political as a saltire with yes on it.
Have you read some of the stuff on there, some of the Nats are off the scale.
I give you
"Smell the fear of the asskissing English pedo toffs. They’re afraid of losing their northern colony and their claim on the enlightenment and on independent thought and moral courage.

fk the English. The Yanks cast them off and so can you."

Jeez.

Edinburger proposes that supporters of UK athletes shouldn't be allowed to wave the UK flag. Really?

What next...Only nationalists can wave the Saltire?

To be fair, if we scroll forward a couple of years to a UK (including Scotland, much the the fury of today's cyberNats) referendum on EU membership I suspect that with less than two months to go and the vote looking broadly in favour of staying in, there will be more than a few equally demented cyberKippers spewing equally toxic bile across the internet.

Absolutely.

Only the flags of competitors are permitted, the UK is not a competitor...

The Red Arrows claim to only ever do red white and blue has also been exposed as a lie.

What a jerk you are fluff. Not permitted! Nationalism really does have an element of the Nazi about it, doesn't it?

Whatever else this is, it's a free country, wave whatever flag you like.
