Are there any decent companies out there?

FYI: Pointless rant, if value your time, perhaps read something else ;-) If you work in retail and/or sales you might sympathise.
I don't know if it's just me, but for almost my entire working life, I am yet to find, or work with a company that makes me feel like they care, and that they want me to stay with them.
No matter how much I do "The boss" just doesn't care. I could sell and make £1 or £1,000,000 it wont matter to them. In fact, I pulled in around a million last year. No word of thanks, but a delightful £80 Christmas bonus. Frankly a shake of the hand and a thanks from the boss would have been preferred, it's less insulting.
I've just been pulled into a meeting where I'm told not to say words like "sir" or "madam" as its not very polite. Of course, there's been no customer complaints, I asked them to provide me with such information, but it's just the management and their opinions.
Perhaps I am wrong in thinking, if the customer is happy, that's all that matters? I mean, they still spend the money so what's the problem? We make money, have a happy customer it could scarcely be better right?
I'm trying to work out what the "problem" is; at aged 29, maybe I am old fashioned in my approach and the boss doesn't like it. Despite he's 30 years my senior. Add to that targets for turnover, NOT profit.
It's a mad house. How does one deal with a boss who just doesn't get it, think backwards, and doesn't care. The simple answer is move jobs, but so far, it's not worked, all bosses seem to be like this!?

My wife has not worked much over the years and was a bit naive with things work related.
She decided to volunteer in a charity shop for something to do and she was always coming home moaning that such and suchabody had only done this much work and they were late and took longer breaks than anybody else,she said she had done more ironing and sorting out but the manageress did not say anything to the other people blah blah blah.
The wife took some convincing that the manageress did not give a toss WHO did the work so long as SOMEBODY did it.

How long before someone comes along and extolls John Lewis?
I worked for the same company (not John Lewis and not in the retail sector) for 33 years and I consider that throughout I was well treated and regarded. I suppose it depends on the culture of the organisation, the freedom and support you get, and what you give back in return.

The CTO of my old employer very much took this approach, and posted a lovely message to that effect on linkedin.The CEO of the company disagreed, and publicly commented to that effect stating that a successful company isn't determined by it's staff, but by the successful completion of product life-cycles that meet the customers demands. Apparently good people help, bad people just get in the way.

Plenty of companies do care. There are lots of bosses who do value people.
However even in these organisations there will be individuals who have outgrown their role who feel disatisfied or undervalued.
Most Employee engagement surveys (happy sheets for the corporate world) will say that anything between 60% - 70 % of the workforce describing themselves as "fully engaged" is a good result.
