I'm in the process of arranging a house move from Dorset to Norfolk, and am anticipating problems when it comes to move-day.

I have three dogs, all XXL (Wolfhounds), who don't travel particularly well. Given the distance (250+ miles) and the fact that it's more than likely that I'll need a hotel for the night, does anyone know of, or can recommend, a company that will collect, transport, board and deliver my boys to their new home?

I'd rather do it myself, but it'll be stressful enough as it is without the worry of looking after them as well.

Try Animalcouriers who are based in West Sussex. They transported my dog from Greece to the UK, but also do shorter distances. They were very helpful and they have a nice blog on their website showing the animals they transport.

Contacted them, and they seem perfect. Thanks.

I tried Shiply and got some weird and wonderful quotes, one from a guy who has a flat-bed truck, who said he'd stop and let them have a run every couple of hours. Another respondent has a small van. When I said that it'd be an overnight move, he said they'd be alright in the back of the van, and he'd sleep in there with them!

Is it possible to sort the move so that you have both properties overlapping for a week?

It would be better to get one house ready, then just make the dogs and their beds etc pretty much the last thing moved. So they're arriving into a house ready to live in, rather than cardboard boxes everywhere and a million jobs to do.

Thats what we done and it was relatively easy. 250 miles shouldn't really need a hotel... you could easily do that in one day with a suitable vehicle and plenty walk breaks?

The problem is, I can't get the new house ready to move into if I'm 250 miles away. Also, an overlap of a week would entail paying for the new place before receiving the cash for the old place.

Luckily, Wolfhounds are incredibly lazy. Even lazier than I am. And stupid. So they probably won't even notice they're in a new house.

All sorted now, anyway. Animal Couriers are go!!! Wish me luck in June.

I'm glad Animal Couriers could help. I look forward to seeing your 3 on their blog.

Preserve something with your (family) scent on it, e.g. used bed linen in a laundry bag as a comforter to send with the dogs.

Beautiful smile

Ensure they have 'yesterday's' shirt with them as they are moved, it will help smile
