640d GC 4days in (possibly still the best car in real world)
Discussion
Thanks OP for the write up and I'm genuinely excited for you, it looks lovely and I'm sure is a wonderful place to be in wherever you're going - the interior looks fantastic.
Ignore the muppets as I'm sure you are, sad really.
Me.........I'm off to play with my boring F10 M5 (according to some) so I'll join you in boringness but be happy

Thanks for the comments.
Still impressing the arse off me.
First full tank fill-up two days ago, 130 miles in and it gives an indicated range of 700 miles from it's 60 litre tank (and 310bhp engine)
Quoted mpg over first 500 miles has been just under 46mpg.
Also invested in a Karcher JetWash.... almost as impressive.

Dear OP,
Fantastic car. Thank you for the real world write up.
As a day to day real world car I think it is right up there.
I had one as a loan car once and I thought it was an excellent car. The new interior is a significient step up from the old one. It also sounds lovely. I am encouraged by the fact that so many people do not like them as it means they will depreciate quickly, bringing them into my range sooner!
Enjoy the car, I think it is fantastic. Please also update the post on your ownership experience.

If you can spunk 50 grand on a 75 grand car why not get the petrol version? Running costs can hardly be an issue when 50 grand isn't ...
TX.
No this st again.TX.
Better range, same performance (quicker in gear). Better residuals (poor versus terrible).
A better drive in the real world (i.e. not on a track). Only sounds marginally worse.
Have you driven a 40d engine?

No, pls tell me all about it. Whilst you're at at though the OP isn't bothered by residuals according to earlier posts so you can discount that which just leaves the mpg issue. Seems silly imho to worry about fuel when you're spending £50k in the first place + the petrol version is a 4.8 V8, what's not to like about that! I'll leave you to cream over Big Diesels though Better range, same performance (quicker in gear). Better residuals (poor versus terrible).

Some bizarre responses in this thread - it is a lovely car, that I would imagine most would like to own if it was offered to them.
I really don't understand why people feel they need to be so bloody rude and vehement when a guy is excited about getting a lovely new motor and wants to share it with like minded people - others who like cars. Comments such as 'it's a diesel BMW, this is a car lovers site' are just pathetic. I love hearing about all cars as I love cars.
The 6GC is a lovely looking car OP, must be a joy to drive on todays stress-filled roads. Personally I think they look fantastic, and are an excellent balance between performance and running costs.
Personally, I would be indescribably pleased to be lucky enough to have such a car to drive, and I am most interested in seeing photos and hearing OP's comments on the car. So he posted it in GG, he's new! Sometimes I really do despair at the petty behaviour on this site.

It isnt a sports car, the 40d engine is a peach. You would buy a petrol, that's fine. The OP didnt, so it a pointless comment.

It's a shame for us poor people who buy these cars used though as it means unless we want to spend 6 months looking for needles in haystacks we have to buy diesels too Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
