Got little 'uns birthday coming up, been toying with the idea of getting him a remote control monster truck (or similar) to drive round garden, park etc. I'm a bit clueless when it comes to RC, so looking for some advice.

He'll be 5. Rather get something half decent that'll last a couple of years. Don't want cheap tat that'll be binned before the year is out. Needs to be simple, robust and be lots of fun. Budget is about £50-100 ish, but I really have no idea what costs what.

Any tips, advice, pointers etc.

Yep, the Lunchbox/Midnight Pumpkin would be my suggestion as well. Simple, pretty robust and easy to upgrade as he gets older and more competent with it. I'd recommend a full ball race kit for it if you do buy one too (not that expensive and it is worth it in the long term) and a 5000mAh (or more) 7.2 volt pack will give considerable run times even on roughish terrain.

It'll be interesting to hear how you got on. I've just bought a lunchbox for my lad who's turning 5 this month as well.

We'll build it together, and I hope he'll get some satisfaction from making it, and hopefully learn something along the way. Did that work out for you, or did they find the build boring?
