I've said it in another thread, but will repeat it here, the thought of being raped and abused as a child is horrific enough, but at the hands of a thirty stone monster like Smith it is off the scale.

Why wasn't something done about him while he was still living?

What are we supposed to think when we learn that people with a known history of this kind of behaviour were installed as authority over children's homes and other institutions for vulnerable young people?

Savile and Broadmoor springs to mind, now given that Savile was nothing more than a pop music DJ, who tf and why tf did someone see fit to install him as head of Broadmoor?

Or was someone in the know acting as a facilitator?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Sometimes sadly, as recent revelations have shown .

Such hindsight arguably 'fills the gaps' between a few peoples' suspicions at the time and the later-revealed cover ups of said suspicions which are now revealed as this whole 'thing' gains its own momentum in the here and now (and as we all ask the questions you're asking)...

Derek, regarding your previous comments doubting the line Dacre took with regard to PIE, I've yet to see the DM today but I've been told the front cover is 'Police Cowards'. There's not a trajectory with running with the Cyril Smith sex crimes, Danczuk sticking the boot into Sir Peter Fahy just over a week ago, and their front cover today?

I think this is the thread for this but Derbyshire Chief Constable is now speaking out that when he was a DS he was instructed by a Superintendent relaying a message from higher up regarding an investigation on Janner.

A search of premises, home and constituency and Westminster offices were expressly forbidden, as was an arrest. Only an arranged and agreed interview was permitted, at which Janner went no comment.

Ok it's a Mail link fwiw but if even half accurate the former DS has always felt it was wrong and now as CC Derbyshire feels able to speak out in the light of revelations.

Mixed feelings about this. On the one hand it's good that he feels able to speak out. On the other hand it makes a complete mockery of some of the comments from supposed police sources on other threads.

Then they wonder why people who are at heart supportive of the police begin to think just what the juddering feck has been going on even until very recently. Not to mention cosy little arrangements with the media.

Basically I have a nose, I know what st smells like, it's on somebody's shoes, just not worked out who it is. Not mine for sure, Mr Persil.

I think this is one of the more pragmatic responses and posts. Some other stuff I have read from one or two people leaves you cold. I think these recent cases have damaged the police force in a large way.

The other said that his newspaper had received a D-notice when a reporter sought to write about a police investigation into Elm Guest House, in southwest London, where a group of high-profile paedophiles was said to have operated and may have killed a child. Now it has emerged that these claims are impossible to verify or discount because the D-notice archives for that period “are not complete”.

Officials running the D-notice system, which works closely with MI5 and MI6 and the Ministry of Defence, said that files “going back beyond 20 years are not complete because files are reviewed and correspondence of a routine nature with no historical significance destroyed”."

But, but, but surely PH has it on good authority (hah) that D- notices can be safely ignored if they are not legitimately national security matters, so the newspapers would surely publish!

Well, it's either that, or buggering young boys while their head is under water is an accepted national security measure.
