In October last year I purchased a 2008 SL500 with 26k miles from Mercedes Retail in London, obviously with 12 months Mercedes used car warranty. It was delivered to me in early October. The car was in totally mint condition and is the SL with the new headlights. 5.5l engine

Last month it developed a fault (leak into boot causing a failure of the central locking pump)and was eventually collected by the London dealer and returned to me almost 4 weeks after the fault occurred. The next day the car had a new problem of a noise and vibration coming through the steering which was traced by my local Mercedes dealer to the ABC pump which controls the hydraulic suspension. All to be fixed under warranty at a cost of around 2k. The problem is the pump is not available in the UK or Germany, it is on back order with the manufacturer and Mercedes are unable to tell me when the pump might be available.

The result is that I have been without my car for more than 6 weeks and Mercedes are unable to tell me when I might get my car back.

Any suggestions on what might be reasonable for me to expect and to ask for

I would be asking for a full refund though I dare say that will not be forthcoming. I truly sympathise with you. Where you must have a case is the fact that the required part is not available . Surely Mighty Mercedes will cooperate. Good Luck.

Hi Michael

I had massive problems with my wife's GWagon and have details of THE complaints department within MB.

I was very happy with my 'gesture of goodwill'

If you want to PM me I will give you a contact number and can discuss?

Thx Tony

ha ha ...yes I know, thats what my wife has been telling me .....it is getting bloody ridiculous, that they can't even tell me when the part will become available ...it could be in 3 months time !

Not unreasonable to suggest/request/demand a reset of the12 month warranty period, starting from when the car is returned to you fit for purpose etc

chassis
WDB2304712F144448

part no
a0054667201

I have now been informed by Mercedes customer service (in Holland) that the part will not be available before the 12th May which means I will be without my car for 3 months !! So I buy a car from Mercedes retail with a warranty, and only 26k miles on the clock, it breaks down and because somebody has fked up in supply chain management, I don't get to drive my car for 3 months ! they have only just agreed to lend me a car

This is a joke .....and the jokes on me !
