Hello all.

Like me, you likely have taken out your beloved for a first blast of the year with the weather having definitely turned 'springy'.

a couple of us are planning to go to the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

http://www.acm.mc/page-tab-gp-histo.php?id_menu=3&...

To make it worthwhile, I mean PHworthwhile, we are planning on leaving Lausanne to go to Grenoble and then follow the Route Napoleon (another must-do to tick off the list)
We would use the route on the photo below to vary slightly the way there and back.

So we reckon, 1 day to drive down to Grasse (Friday 9th) - night in Grasse
Saturday and Sunday at the Grand Prix (Saturday night in Monaco)
Drive back to Lausanne on Monday 12th (having stayed again in Grasse or Digne on Sunday 11th).

Whilst accommo in Monaco can be expensive, we are making do with only 1 night there. The actual tickets for the Grand Prix are only like EUR20 a head.

If anyone is interested in joining in, let me know and we will try and coordinate.

Cheers

Hi Eric,

I might be able to make it. Please e-mail me with details as they develop.

FYI the dates in the title don't seem to be correct, or have I missed something?

Hi Toni

My mistake. If people venture onto link to ACM they will see that the CORRECT dates for the Historic GP are 9th to 11th (Friday to Sunday).

The plans are already firmed up:
Friday 9th : Leave Lausanne really early (say 6AM?) to get to and around Geneva before morning traffic. Make way to Grenoble. Then Route Napoleon to Grasse. Hotel in Grasse.
Saturday 10th : Short drive to Monaco. Staying at Le Méridien Beach Plaza for 1 night. Drop our gear and then on to the track - Tickets for grandstands.
Sunday 11th : Spectating again. Tickets for grandstands. Drive out to Digne afterwards.
Monday 12th : Drive back to Lausanne - either Route Napoleon again or a variant via Briançon (with mountain passes - weather dependent?).

Cheers

Eric

That sounds wonderful, but unfortunately I won't be able to make it (this time round at least!)
Have fun!

Hello all

Just some feedback on the event.

It is the full track of closed off roads and if, like me, you have been to Monaco before but never during the GP, then it is impressive to see for yourself what the TV cannot really do justice to.
FYI, after 19h30 both days, the track (most of it but not the tunnel) is open to traffic so you can check it out.

The racing was very good with big grids (44 cars in the biggest for qualifying, dropping to 34 in the race itself) which means as a spectator on a 2 mile circuit, there is always something to see. The quality of the driving was in the main very good.
It takes some commitment on this track to risk your pride and joy and quite a few cars suffered substantial damage.

The event was made that much better for us as we drove down from GE through route Napoleon and branched off from there onto mountain passes or following gorges with rock tunnels , ie typical fare for Tour de France cycling or Monte Carlo Rallye (including Col du Turrini) - Amazing!

3 days after coming back from it I say deffo going back in 2 years' time!

By the way, there was an auction at the time which yielded a surprising result (no vested interest from me here clap )
