Myself and a colleague have been given the runaround from Caterham in terms of a straight answer, plus our instruction books don't have the exact car spec in them which makes me dubious as to use any of the varients in it. So I thought I'd ask you lot for a straight forward answer.

So, which oil should I be using in my 2012 Supersport (Sigma 140)? Plus for some extra bonus kudos, will this be any different for my mates 2009 Superlight 150 (Sigma also)?

Cheers in advance!

05/50 fully synthetic. I'm sure thats always been the case for both Sigma and Duratec. How come no-one at CC knew that, from memory it's in the handbook!?!

There was a thread about this on Blatchat earlier this week. General consensus was this stuff: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68896-fuchs-titan-race...

5w30 is what Ford specify and they know what they're talking about! smile

5w30 - fully synthetic.

How much you spend is up to you. I've used the Halfords stuff with no problems, but I'm running Fuchs at the moment.

Thanks all. It's not a case of Caterham not knowing, it's the never returning phone calls as per usual! smile

Comma X-tech 5w30 is the stuff that Caterham would sell you which is here:

Caterham 5w30 Oil

You could use the 5w/50 Motorsport oil that they also sell but unless you are using your car on track a lot I would say that is overkill.

This is the same stuff as that shown above but from a different source in case you want options on where to get it:

Same stuff listed on ebay

Same stuff as Caterham sell but at a slightly better price ultimately.

To be honest though, any Ford Spec 5w30 will do just fine. I believe if you go and buy the Ford spec Halfords stuff in a 5w30 grade then its actually made for them by Comma anyway. If you want to be double sure you've got the right stuff though then buy the likes of what I added above.

To be clear, although its purported to be a Fully Synthetic oil it isn't really a true Synthetic such as the likes of the Fuchs Titan oil mentioned on Blatchat above. That's a proper Ester based synthetic and you pay accordingly for it although there is no doubting it's a very good oil. That's certainly one I would consider if I was using my car solely on track and for racing etc but for general street use I can't see the benefits really. I think the answer to your question here really depends on your typical mode of use for your car and how much you really want to spend and yes, your mate has the same engine so same oil for the both of you.
