Hi all,

I'm not a mechanic so humour me here, but what would cause the following symptoms?

- 'Clunk' from rear end when putting transmission into D or R, and on some gear shifts.
- Shuddering sensation when accelerating, up until about 40mph.

Car is a 1993 LS400 V8 auto with 80,000mi.

Thanks in advance!

Matthew

Transmission and/or engine mounts?

They're on my to do list for my 96 LS, although the engine mounts look like a bit of a pig to do so I think I'll get my tame mobile mechanic to do those biggrin

There's a how to for the transmission mount here, doesn't look too painful.

Thanks chaps, much appreciated.

Haven't been doing any burnouts, can't comment if the previous owner has or not as he is a PHer biggrin

1. Engine mounts, the front two. Get the uprated ones from America, cheaper too. The LS 400 eats suspension parts like most Lexus (Lexi ?).
I put a full front end on mine last year bar the springs. Got MOOG from RockAuto (greasable!) and or FIGS joints (from FIGS himself) for her.
She steers like a 3/4 ton go-cart now, ie it's a massive improvement and no mid corner adjustments need to be made to take up the slack.

2. Might be a slightly worn differential too. If it is don't worry too much unless you're a bit OCD about bumps and knocks.

Thought I would add an update for anyone Googling the same problem - it was the differential mounting bushings. Nice and quiet now.
