One of my folding mirrors has stopped working it seems to be a wiring fault just where the mirror folds. I have removed the mirror from the car and all the component parts I can but I can't seem to be able to separate the part where the mirror folds to the bit that holds it to the car. The pivot point does have a internal tooth locking washer on it, does that have to come off? Or is there another way?

It's a 2008 320 estate.

This is a classic fault with these w211 cars. The wiring loom has is pants. You will need to have a multimeter to check each strand. Its quite easy to remove the whole unit (3 screws on the outside and then 2 molex plugs on the inside).

The main pain is actually removing the cover to the mirror. You need a long flat blade screwdriver and a torch. The cover is spring loaded. Stick the scredriver into the spring latch and then twist. The cover should then slide off.

I bought some simple cable from Maplins and terminal blocks to repair both folding mirrors. Have a look at the following.
