Is my crank shagged?? Rover V8
Discussion
What did the shells look like when you took them out? I'd only be concerned if the reason for the rebuild was bearing failure on that journal.
How far are you going on the rebuild? is it a full strip or partial refresh? If youre spending big bucks on it then it may well be worth the regrind or another refurbed crank if it would give peace of mind.

Peace of mind in here is when I say "it's nothing. Don't worry about it".
That little glitch is an insignificant inclusion in the cast iron from the casting process and has been there since the crank was made. It was ground over on the crank grinder during manufacture and the edges are not proud of the surface. The journal is clearly mint as will be the bearings that came off it. It has had, and will have, no effect whatsoever on the running of the engine.

Thanks pumaracing that's good to know. I will measure the journals later and post them up and check the state of the big end shells. That little glitch is an insignificant inclusion in the cast iron from the casting process and has been there since the crank was made. Unless it was a ham fisted re-builder refitting the piston and it was a rod stud that did it..... Gassing Station | Engines & Drivetrain | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
