Firstly apologies for yet another Vegas thread!

Just booking a Vegas trip for the end of the year. I haven't been for a few years and have yet to try any of the new(ish) hotels (Aria, Cosmo, Mandarin Oriental etc)

The last few times I have been lucky enough to stay in a Salon Suite at the Wynn and the Encore, A penthouse suite at The Bellagio and a Panoramic suite at The Planet Hollywood. The Wynn was by quite a long way my favourite!

This year looking at the options,

1 Bed Penthouse SkySuite at the Aria
Lanai Suite at the Cosmo
A Skyloft at the MGM (if the wallet can stretch that far!)
Parlour Suite at the Wynn
1 Bed Penthouse at the Bellagio

My gut feeling is to stick to the Wynn, although I would really like to give either the Aria or Cosmo a go, any thoughts/suggestions?

I stayed in the Lanai Suite at the Cosmo in December and a wraparound a few months before.

The Lanai is great, 2 floors, ridiculous projector screen, hot tub outside etc etc but I preferred the wraparound purely for the view.

how old are you? It makes a bit of a difference, cosmo, is a younger trashier crowd, wynn more refined, aria a touch boring.

Wynn parlour suite is nice, but very similar feeling wise to their regular rooms, just bigger.

I haven't stayed in the cosmo lanai suites, but I think they're ground level?

let me tell you, MGM skylofts are superb. they're all 2 story at the top of mgm, great great rooms, but on top of that, the service is at a total new level as well, whereas in a lot of the others you're just in a bigger room, this is a bigger experience. The only bad part is that you need a degree in engineering to work their coffee machine.

Did some research on Aria a while back, but found their room categories on their site confusing enough for me to give up!

An alternative to MGM Skylofts is to take a Skyline terrace suite http://www.mgmgrand.com/hotel/skyline-terrace-suit... You still get enhanced service (not quite skyloft level but still good), the room is on 2 floors, really cool, and it has outside space. Great room, and about half the price of a skyloft (which has no outdoor space!)

Wife and I stayed in a corner suite in the V'dara, and very nice it was too.

Of all those mentioned, I would chose the Wynn. It's the most comfortable IMO.

Planet Hollywood has some amazing movie themed suites with real movie props etc. Makes it a bit more special. Only ever been in the Die Hard suite and it was awesome.

Thanks for all the the suggestions, I am in my late 20's but am also taking my dad who is a very young at heart 68 as well as my girlfriend (who hasn't been to vegas before).

The Lanai suite does look very good but going with someone who hasn't been before I think she would appreciate the view from a room on a high floor, and also in December I am not sure if we would brave the hot tub!

At the moment I am thinking that maybe the wrap around at the cosmo might fit the bill. But am going to have a look at the sky suites at the MGM although I am not a massive fan of the property (seemed a little dated to me)

Keep the suggestions and comments coming!

In terms of suites (and upper floor suites at that) I can only compare the Wynn, Encore, Caesars and the Aria. I actually prefer the Encore suites to the Wynn, but there aren't great views from the Encore so assuming it's like for like high-floor the Wynn is better just because of that. I think Caesars is a bit hit and miss depending on what 'tower' you are in. We were in one of the older towers and while it was decent enough it was a bit tired, and no-where near as nice as the Encore/Wynn.

But here's the wild-card - we'd decided that we'd always stay at the Wynn/Encore as it was (in our opinion) the best place in town. But a few years ago the prices for the week we were going were astronomical. The Aria had just opened so we reluctantly thought we'd give it a try. We were mightily impressed - the suites were near-as-dammit as good as the Wynn/Encore with just as many toys, the view was better, and the location was better. OK maybe the casino floor/reception doesn't have quite the same ambiance, but overall the location/views make up for it. So for the last 4 times we've been now we've chosen The Aria over the Wynn/Encore. In truth if they were all the same price I would probably go for The Wynn again, but I wouldn't pay any significant premium over The Aria for it...the rooms just aren't 'that' much better, and it's not great location-wise with taxi/longish walk to everywhere.

the MGM has had quite a lot of money spent on it recently, even the standard rooms have all be renovated and hakassan is currently one of the top clubs on the strip. think they've even got rid of the lions inside!

i would say for location/ looks/ feel, aria and cosmopolitan are where i would choose to stay at the moment. they have a lot of nice bars and stuff to go and have drinks without having to go to clubs or anything like that.

wynn/encore are very nice properties, but always feel they are just that little bit out of the way. i always prefer to be in the middle of the strip (PH, bellagio, cosmo, aria area) and being at the wynn/ encore i would say your stuck at one end, theres certainly nothing worth visiting past them on the strip so you only be looking to head back up the other end.

You certainly won't regret the view from the wraparounds @ Cosmo!

From experience, the cosmo wrap around ones are great as are the lanai suites, but the clientelle in the cosmo is awful. I cannot stand the place.

On my own dime, the only two places in vegas i would currently pay for would be the aria and the Mandarin oriental, the latter having the bonus (to me anyway) of no casino, so its a lot more like a regular hotel, and without the traditional vegas trek through the casino. It is also non smoking.

I like the aria- it strikes a nice balance between quieter and vegas, and the rooms/suites are good.

FYI: there is an SLS opening sept 1st. The ones in beverly hills and miami are superb, so that may be one to consider.

I was in Vegas two weeks ago and that SLS doesn't look like it will be opening any time soon but you never know.

If you want a non gaming hotel then we stayed at the Vdara, the suite was awesome for the money we paid, had a view of bellagio fountains from the bedroom. Had chocolates left after we told them it was our anniversary, very good hotel and I don't think I'd stay in a gaming hotel again in Vegas.

Harsh, but fair. smile

Similarly, if I'd paid good money to stay at the Bellagio I would be annoyed by all the dreadful gawping tourists hanging around the Lobby area and scummers like me making a shortcut from the Monte Carlo train out to the Strip.

A Good Call, the MO is often overlooked because it is not one of the large casino resorts people expect from Vegas, but as you say the lack of casino tourists makes it a good luxury option along with the central Strip Location.

The Wynn also seems out on a limb on the north Strip, and I'm not sure it would have the 'wow' views such as pictured above from the Cosmo.

I haven't stayed at MO, but I tend to not like non gaming properties. The main reason is that they just don't feel very vegas! Especially with someone thats never been before they need the full experience, the buzz, the crowds etc!

Having said that december can be fairly quiet (with the obvious exception of new years eve) so you might be fine anyway. Agree that view wise, cosmo is very hard to beat, I love those wraparound suites, the added bonus is that its the only place around with a balcony and a view, chilling back on your chair there, with a beer at 4am, watching vegas is just perfect!

Having thought we had made our mind up....2 bedroom Skyloft at the MGM, I've just got off the phone to the Cosmo enquiring about their West End Penthouses. There seems to be very little information about them online apart from the standard hotel marketing spiel! But they are coming in at almost £1k cheaper for the 4 nights compared to the Skyloft so I am considering it, has anyone got any experience of them?

That was the one thing that pissed me off when we stayed in the Bellagio

I was hoping that someone would recommend the Palazzo at the Venetian - hoping my other half and I have made a good choice.
