In particular watch out for the unmarked silver BMW 3 series and blue Skoda Octavia RS on the M3 between Basvegas and Southampton! Never been stopped but see them regularly with their victims on the hard shoulder!

I think they have similar cars on the M27 and A3 too.

That's an interesting article Chewie, according to the statistics 27% of fatal accidents involved speed as a contributory factor. Begs the question, what about the other 73%? scratchchin

And if we were to exclude motorbike lunacy the figures would change quite dramatically :

Even the phrase contributory factor is a bit of a cop out (no pun intended). So if any of those were drink / drug drivers, who were then speeding, that'd still count in those statistics, if someone was texting and eating a kebab on the motorway and ran into the back of somebody, I'm sure the speed would have been a 'contributory factor'...

I had to do a speed awareness course years ago (34 in a 30, was in an unfamiliar car and wasn't paying enough attention, so fair enough) and at that point, apparently 4% of fatal accidents happened on motorways, the fastest roads...

They should be far tougher in built up areas as far as I'm concerned, 30 and 40 zones are where it really matters, that's where the difference can be made, chasing the tiny percentiles on motorways and A roads, it's just pointless, the traffic and conditions limit your speed most of the time anyway... Plus, there's such a large network of A and M roads, that a police presence is rarely felt, whereas a force could have far more of an impact focused around a town, and that's where people see it, and will be influenced by it.

Ahh who knows, people are paid more than me to figure this stuff out, best leave them to it! hehe

I guess you're remembering your early days of driving, when the most common accident was running over the guy that had to walk in front of your car with a red flag. hehe

Ok, One Vehicle has to be moving...

If Neither Vehicle is moving - No Speed = No Accident

Think it was about 180mph, was a test done on top gear I think.
(So its bound to be accurate)

Think that's a Gatso so not exactly the same thing. Pretty sure the LTI 20/20 Laser guns et el won't have an upper speed limit unfortunately.

Though the car they hop into to chase after you might....

Still it's all hypothetical as none of us ever break the speed limit angel

Speed does contribute towards accidents but in my experiance sheer poor driving is the main issue however to catch people is very hard so they pick on the easy target - speeding. Only yesterday I went to go right at a roundabout only for the lorry on my far left (3 lane entry) to also look to turn right - without indicating!

In Germany where Ive driven quite allot they go faster but the standard of driving is far higher IMHO. People use mirrors and indicate correctly etc etc.

Doubtful. Apart from on dual carriageways (where the lorry restrictor kicks in) it's rare that you find an HGV sticking to their limit.
