Looking for suggestions for a central hotel in Chester, small / private / romantic type thing for a night or two with the missus for 1st wedding anniversary.

Cheers

Mill Hotel & Spa is pretty decent. Free use of the leisure facilities and parking is a bonus too and it's a 2 minute walk to Foregate St.

The Chester Grosvenor is fantastic, definately not the Crowne Plaza, Abode, Blossoms are both okay

Yep, the Mill is good, nice rooms and you can take cruises on the canal, with tea or Dinner. Easy walking into town.

Oddfellows would get my vote over all those mentioned.

Thanks folks.

Mill Hotel - wife has stayed at before, on a hen do, said it was OK.

Oddfellows - no availability on the night we're after frown

Grosvenor - Looks lovely, possibly slightly out of price range though, unless they run occasional promotions to knock a bit of the price.

Queens Hotel wasn't too shabby the last time I stayed there. Pretty central (next to the railway station) and it has an on-site car park.

Have a look at Edgar House Hotel. Its overlooking the river and within 5 mins walk of the centre of town. I've never been but live close by and have heard good reports about the food they serve there.

Abode is looking like a possibility at the moment, one of their rooms with a balcony looks nice and in budget, which sadly the Grosvenor still isn't.

Also what's the restaurant in Abode like? Michael Caines?

Just to bring closure to the thread.

We stayed at the Abode, room with a balcony, over looking the horse track.

Very very nice place, ate in the Michael Caines restaurant and can thoroughly recommend it - superb food, excellent service.

We were really well looked after, free chocolates along with a congratulations card in the room - it was our 1st wedding anniversary.

And at dinner they served us a chocolate desert type thingy decorated with a congratulatory message.

Really highly recommended.

As an aside the pub next door to it - The Architect is also lovely and a very nice place to spend a sunny afternoon.
