Confusion on cambelt or timing chain.

Hi all,

I will be going to view a VW polo 2000 1.4 petrol tomorrow. It is the MPI engine and from research it seems to be a Skoda engine if so it should be chain driven. Speaking to the owner he says it has a timing belt so does this make it a skoda or VW engine?

IIRC there were two 1.4 engines.

8v was a skoda jobby with a chain and 16v was a VW one with a belt.

I have purchased the car now and indeed it is a timing belt.
