Can anyone of with knowledge of employment law advise on this. My partner requested a change to her working hours on the 17th February. Her employer has only just come back to her to arrange a meeting to discuss. My understanding is that this meeting should have taken place within 28 days.

As it did not take place, does it make a difference? she thinks they are going to refuse the change. But need to know where she stands on this point in the first instance.

Thanks in advance

Presumably this was a statutory request for flexible working?

The link below suggests that your partner may be able to claim compensation of up to 8 weeks pay under flexible working legislation for the failure to respond.

Could you clarify please. Was this just a request to alter hours, or a statutory request for flexi working? If the latter, did the employer make the suggestion of the meeting within 28 days of the request? If it did, it is not in breach of the rules as yet.

If the former, there are no relevant general rules, and it's a matter of agreement.

PS: cool mumsnet link bro! OK, not really mumsnet, but almost!

thanks for the replies Breadvan, it was a statutory request for flexi hours, she currently works 2 1/2 days a week 10-7.30 Mon and Tues and 10 - 2 on a Wednesday. She wants to change her hours to spread over the week to allow time for out little boy to go to nursery. Ironicly we received a letter in the post today to say a meeting has been booked.
