Looking to Buy an Evora
Discussion
Firstly hi to everyone hopefully Ill be joining the Lotus forum more often.
I've recently sold my 997.2 Carrera S which I loved but after the warranty being up and the service being due I didn't think is was worthwhile keeping it and the plan was to sell it and buy another one.
However since I bought my 911 every man and their dog has gone and bought one upon seeing me using mine daily with 2 young children so its lost its exclusivity now.
After looking at the Evora its no doubt a better looking car. The only thing I am worried about is will it be quick enough. I'm hopefully going to drive one Saturday in Silverstone. There's no doubt it will on be the S model Ill look at but its still 40BHP down from a 991 which I would look at however its £30k cheaper and I don't think I've ever seen one on the road which is a massive plus.
I would probably consider tuning which I would hope a remap would take the Evora to the same performance as a new 911 although I cant find to many options at the moment.
I'm also slightly worried about servicing\repairs at the moment. I'm based in Swansea and the nearest Lotus dealership is either Southampton or Silverstone which is some way away. Has anyone else got the same issues and how do you find this?
Thanks in advance

I bought my Evora from Aimeee at silverstone, and had excellent service. An Evora S should feel quick enough after a 997 S, and with the Komtec kit you can get up to 400bhp (see the Lotus Forums). I wentfrom a TVR Tuscan (0-60 in 3.8) to an n/a Evora, and whilst the Evora is slower its still not a slow car by most standards and its handling really makes up for that, the steering is alomost telepathic and ride is less harsh but body is as well controlled as any 911 or Cayman I have drivem
For servicing, you have Williams in Bristol, Greypaul in Birmibgham and there is a good indy (can't remember the name) in Somerset. I can't fault Silverstone on service.
The cars are rare, I get way more positive reactions than I did in a 911 and none of the negative ones. I like having something a little less common and enjoy the reactions especially from school kids on the school run.
The rear is tighter than a 997, the sound system is worse, and the air con is not automatic, but for me all those pale into insignificance when you drive it. Mine is a daily driver and I love it.
I went from a 255hp Europa to my NA Evora so lost quite a bit of performance. To tell the truth I don't miss it. The Evora NA is quick enought on the road to have a lot of fun in and you can actually drive it on limit without doing speeds which will end up with you bing locked up instantly if caught. I test drove a car with 100hp more a couple of weeks ago and whilst being obviously faster (+20mph on all straights) it just meant I got to the point of having to lift off earlier.
For once I think the journalists have got it about right when they say less is more, making a car faster does not always make it more fun, just more scary.

If its for the road its more than fast enough to loose your license, if it is for its for the track its fast enough...... I also think(opinion here) most drivers are not skilled enough to get maximum performance out of a standard car let alone one with 'more power'Discuss

I've got the N/A with a few mods, 310bhp according to a local dyno.
It's plenty fast enough for everyday use and sounds superb.
I've got the long ratio box, think the close ratio would be better but balanced against fuel consumption of longer runs I can't decide what I'd pick if I were buying another one.
I drove a fair few 911's before I bought the Evora, that's what I actually wanted but the driving experience and looks of the Evora blew me away.
Had it nearly two years now, it's a fantastic car on road and track, a few small niggles with the interior build but it is a launch edition model, the newer 2012 onwards cars are very nicely finished.
I'm sure you'll love one, try both the N/A and S before you decide.

I find the normal box is great on te car as a daily driver especially on the longer motorway trips. Aren't gears 1-3 the same in both boxes anyway?
Mods I've got are:
Lotus Sports back box
2Bular De-Cat
Radium cold air induction.
I've also fitted the Lotus GTE barge boards and a Difflow diffuser, supposed to give more down force but I can't tell any difference, look good though.
I thought the CR and LR box shared the first two gears, and that 4th in the LR box is the same as sixth in the CR box.

Ok. I have a custom tubular decat and back box, so its radium for me next Does that make it very loud on motorway cruise?Lotus Sports back box

I also have barge boards and have been looking a difflow, postage cost is a bit off putting though

Have to agree on this last year I drove 911 GT2 and GT2 RS in Porsche's Silverstone centre I was like a tit to be honest. Both cars had far to much power for my driving skills. The Instructor then took me for a few laps with him driving just so I got experience the car.Discuss

I've got a test drive booked for Saturday in Silverstone.
I want the car to sound really good where is the best place to get the cold air induction kit and decat pipe?
thanks

I don't find it noisy below 110mph, that's with the LR box though. I also have barge boards and have been looking a difflow, postage cost is a bit off putting though
