Doing my assignment about the Maxda mx5 MARK ONE. I need any details anybody can give me about the Heat Exchange system - the RADIATOR. I need sizes, inlet pressures, inlet temperatures, your general opinion - is a good radiator? Do you think it could be made better? - and how? Anything you may happen to know about this radiator, please send in my direction. Data is very limited on the internet and I need serious information!

Thank you very much!

Probably a good idea to head over to mx5nutz (uk), and miataturbo.net, they are more likely to yield info, more active mx5'ers and tuners.

Exact figures may be quite difficult to come by; essentially, they're not fixed. Inlet pressures, temperatures and the like vary depending on RPM (engine driven pump), and how hard the car's being pushed (how much energy is being sunk into the system).

Depending on your dissertation you might be better looking at experimentally measuring aspects of the radiator. Might be useful if you gave more details on what you're planning to cover in your dissertation.

Generally the radiator is quite adequate for regular use as you might expect, however the cooling can struggle a little on track, particularly if you've got a turbo/supercharged car. There's also a little anomaly in the way the coolant flows due to the 'heritage' of the engine (look up coolant re-route). As to being made better, an alloy rad is usually the first stop..

Last piece of advice, it might be worth looking at the tone of your post - I'm being nit-picky, but it could come across as a bit demanding and asking others to do the work for you wink

It's also marque, not mark. biggrin

I've got a couple of books at home, so I'll see if they have anything of use.
