Bentley appoints new Chairman and CEO

Wolfgang Durheimer replaces Wolfgang Schreiber in the latest management move at Bentley

It's musical chairs time again in the VW Group with a shift around at the upper echelons of Bentley management.

Schreiber takes 'leading position in the VW Group'
Schreiber takes 'leading position in the VW Group'
Wolfgang Durheimer, who most recently has been General Representative of the VW Group responsible for motorsport, will become Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors as of June 1. He replaces his fellow Wolfgang, Dr Schreiber, at the top of Bentley. Seemingly because this isn't quite enough to keep Wolfgang D occupied, he has also been appointed to the VW Group committees responsible for the American and Chinese markets.

Durheimer of course has been involved with Bentley previously, occupying a joint CEO role with Bugatti in 2011. Following that he was on the management board at Audi, responsible for technical development.

Schreiber's new role is less defined at present, being described only as a 'leading position within the Volkswagen Group'. Whatever the job will be, he brings experience from his role at Bentley as well as eight years as head of Bugatti development from 2003-2011. Schreiber has also been on VW's commercial vehicle board since 2006.

After seeing the way he briefly ran Dunder Mifflin I'm not sure how capable he will be at Bentley?

Oh.. Bentley are still going are they?

The most 'meh' prestige car company.

No doubt Wolfgang the 2nd will try and appeal to a younger buyer buy releasing a load of 'exciting' SUV's and hatchbacks with 'more accessible' pricing which will consist of rebadged VW's with nice seats and plush carpets I suspect.

I think BMW missed a trick by not buying Bristol and going head-to-head with Bentley. BMW need a car in the £100K to £200K price range.

Wouldn't that mean they would have bought themselves back?

Surely easier to make a "budget" RR than try & remake Bristol in the same way?

A BMW M6 coupe is already £116,000 when you walk thru the door? Only Porsche are more blatant with their "You mean I have to pay for this?" options list.
Although they have taken the arrogance that epitomised trying to buy a new Bristol in spirit anyway.

It is not a brit company and as we know Germans only ever employ Germans or anyone else until they do not have to.

I think the point is that BMW don't have a 'halo' car, in the same way as Audi have the R8. The Rolls Royce and BMW ranges are quite distant, and all of the top spec BMW branded cars are simply reworked lower echelon models. The M5 and M3 are fine cars, but to me, simply breathed-on exec transport. Now, if they launched an Alpina stand-alone sports car (Modern RLE, perhaps?), that would be something...

You could argue the i8 is the halo car...

Indeed, and I'd argue it provides (or will provide, once people know of it) a much brighter halo than does the R8.
