I think BMW missed a trick by not buying Bristol and going head-to-head with Bentley. BMW need a car in the £100K to £200K price range.
A BMW M6 coupe is already £116,000 when you walk thru the door? Only Porsche are more blatant with their "You mean I have to pay for this?" options list.
Although they have taken the arrogance that epitomised trying to buy a new Bristol in spirit anyway.
I think the point is that BMW don't have a 'halo' car, in the same way as Audi have the R8. The Rolls Royce and BMW ranges are quite distant, and all of the top spec BMW branded cars are simply reworked lower echelon models. The M5 and M3 are fine cars, but to me, simply breathed-on exec transport. Now, if they launched an Alpina stand-alone sports car (Modern RLE, perhaps?), that would be something...
You could argue the i8 is the halo car...
Indeed, and I'd argue it provides (or will provide, once people know of it) a much brighter halo than does the R8.
Fair point. I'd forgotten about that! Which may say more about BMW marketing than it does about my failing memory?

In fairness, anyone who actually did buy a Z8 and kept it will be very happy. The Z8 is appreciating in value these days.

insert generic comment about not having a brit running the company...
It is not a brit company and as we know Germans only ever employ Germans or anyone else until they do not have to.
Really?

The workforce at the Mini factory up the road from me would say you are talking bks. They employ a lot of people, not many of them are German..

And of course there is the BMW factory in South Carolina USA that makes ALL of the BMW X5, even the ones they sell in the UK and Germany. I could go on... rolleyes

Doesn't "walk thru {sic} the door" mean before any options?
