Very good. Not watched the film though, does it matter? Should I dig that out?
The film is (IMHO) utterly brilliant. But this seems to be a standalone series (although loosely "based" on the film) so you can watch the series without seeing the film. That said, I think if you watch the film, it'll provide "background" to the series and you may "get" some of the background stuff in the series (small town, accents, culture etc). Dibble said:

Ok thanks. ajprice said:
Got the DVD out this morning and watched the film. Still great, and the TV series does get the feel of it.
I really enjoyed it. A good effort to recreate the "feel" as you say. Wonderful black humour - like when Freeman runs head-first into the basement wall to knock himself out. Very Homer-esque.I thought it was OK, but not a great deal more. Thought Martin Freeman was miscast, notably from a British audience perspective I'd have rather have had a more unknown American everyman-type. Didn't seem to have the sense of humour of the film either, but then I guess that is the Coen's trademark.
I'll still watch, but it's not a patch on the film, and seems odd to tie it in with the film other than marketing.
Oh and neither this, or the film are anything near to a true story. If you believe that, then you have to believe that Prince is the guy shot running from the car in the film. Again, Coen humour

I liked it a lot.
I thought Freeman was very good. Nailed it IMO.
Billie Bob makes it look easy though. He's a class act. Easy to forget he was Angelina Jolie's other half. I think he knew her during her wild days. They were a very rock and roll couple. I'm sure his autobiography would be a good read.

Oh jeez! I watched this yesterday and rather enjoyed it. I didn't think Freeman's accent was bad, although I think only someone from Minnesota could really judge how good it was. I was quite surprised at how quickly everything kicked off; given that it's a 10 part series, I expected things to move much more slowly.
