Where should i buy 2004 m3 glasgow area
Discussion
Hi All,
Looking for a bit of advice here, a work colleague is seriously thinking of buying a 2004 m3 soon. He was looking at one around Glasgow area, he has nothing to trade in. Are there any places to avoid? I mentioned Buchanan motors, but I heard it was not such a good place and they have changed name in the last while also. His budget is £10k , what can he expect to get for this budget? Appreciate any feedback!

Since there is only one that fits your description in Glasgow would it not just be easier to ask if anyone recommended the dealer rather than trying to rule out the other 1000 dealers in Glasgow?

That car looks nice, but being an M3 lover, the wheels are wrong. They have been powder coated rather than machine cut. Not a big deal I guess!
I was in a similar position every time I bought one of my M3s. I'm now on my 7th, and only bought 1 of them north of the border. This was actually from a BMW Dealership. The only thing I found about looking further afield is the fact the market is huge, and you can get swamped with choice! Sometimes the odd few cars up here just helps influence your decision and gets you into a car quicker. If it's the right car for you're friend he'll know!
I've walked away from cars way down south before because they were not right. Tell your friend if he does go further afield, not to feel obliged to spend his money.

Worth mentioning to check service history, mainly running in service carried out and on time. There are underlying issues with some M3's subframe, a number have been found to crack, a quick google search will throw up tons of news...a number of cars have had cracks detected but warranty repair rejected due to service history issues with the run in service, also lowering the car.
Alternators are prone to failing so I would be checking that as well. But as said above there are a number of cars for sale if you are willing to travel. I would suggest looking at a forum for a car, M3cutters etc

In addition to that any cars older than 10 years are excluded from the 'goodwill' repair by BMW. There are other options though, but I wouldn't be buying any E46 M3 without a thorough inspection of the boot floor and subframe carrier by someone with the knowledge to spot the hairline cracks. I wouldn't worry about the 'running in' service on a 10 year old car, any issues arising from that will have presented themselves already.

Its funny that you mention that.............IMO the diamond cut and clear coated ones are a nightmare to live with the smallest chip and they spider web quickly. I think these ones look good and although not OEM certainly easier to live with.Gassing Station | Scotland | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
