Which film has the most complicated plot of all? Mainstream film that is, excluding incomprehensible arty films.

Lock stock and two smoking barrels must be close to the top.

The Departed, I had no idea what was going on. Inception is easy to follow the second time around.

Revolver.

Probably Guy Richie's most confusing piece of work. I've seen it three times and still struggle with certain parts.

Also Akira; but then the Japs are a bit mental.

Arguable how mainstream it is i guess but i'd say Primer has the most complicated plot i've ever seen.

I think 'confusing' and 'complicated' are different.

A lot of films are confusing to poor editing.
I recall finding Naked Lunch confusing, and therefore frustrating and ultimately disappointing.

A film with a good complex story is brilliant, and rewarding.
Big Sleep = complex
Naked Lunch = confusing

You watched that 3 times? Oh sod that - I watched it once, got the suspicion that there might be some greatness buried in there somewhere, but there's not it's just a terrible plot, same goes for the Matrix sequals...

Pulp Fiction is complicated to watch, but only because of the non-linier nature of it, if you watch it in the correct order it's reasonably straight forward.

Donnie Darko had me scratching my head.

Memento isn't bad, but second viewing isn't very good.

12 Monkeys isn't bad for the WTF levels.

Pretty much anything from Terry Gilliam's back catalogue comes under WTF category mind, they are very good though.

Trance:

Its on SKY on Demand right now.

Some bizarre storyline going on right there. Its about a bungled heist of a painting where he gets knocked out, suffers neurological issues and forgets where he hid the painting - leading to the criminals getting a bit uppity.

Sounds simple enough?

Watch it and find out how weird it gets.

There are quite a few films that follow a similar type of storyline.

The Machinist was good in this regard.

Also I enjoyed The Triangle perhaps more than I should have

This is why I watched it three times. I actually liked it, but only because of Mark Strong's performance.

I love Akira, thus I inflict it on anybody that hasn't seen it. 75% of people I've suggested it to don't 'get it'. While the first half is pretty straightforward, the last half is all over the place.

Admittedly I'd had a few glasses of wine, but I didn't make it to the end of Cloud Atlas.

Donnie Darko was complicating but was also pants IMHO so it got to a point where I didn't care.

Departed and Unusual Suspects are two films which are more complicated the second time round IMHO as I find myself knowing the outcome (duh seen it once) but trying to figure out if I missed some minute detail first time round. I'm basically just rewatching for the clues.
