Whar do you mean by "cheap"? Cat D repaired S1s seem to now cost £7k. A non-cat 1 starts around 9k so I suppose that's about right...

I've viewed the below car for a mate a couple of months' ago, it's in reasonable nick given the mileage and its the cheapest available - but the dealer had already had it in for months and wasn't interested in moving on the price. It's not a Cat D...

Have you tried ebay?

Yes had a look at e-bay as mentioned...I saw that Silver one and it;s been on sale so long had decided in my mind there must be something wrong with it, proves never to always trusts instincts lol

When I last saw Cat D's they tended to start around £5500 and top out at £7k....take it things have moved on then...must say had also considered a VX220 but the squareness and dare I say it the badge put me off slightly...

If it's a track car then who cares what it looks like. I haven't seen a cat D elise on pistonheads at below 7k for a while - whereas there was a repaired CAT D VX220 turbo on here and on SELOC a couple of months ago for 8k that looked rather tasty. S1 elises have definitely gone up in value in the past couple of years, 3 years ago you could pick a good, low(er) mileage one up for 7/8k, now it's nearer 10k.

The dealer was convinced that someone would pay him 7k to use the silver one as a base for a track car...

To be honest, if I was buying now I'd SERIOUSLY consider a VX220. Take the badge off the front but keep the chrome V on the front and I think they look pretty smart.

Only concern would be that as a track car the headlights and clamshells are quite tricky to replace if damaged now.

I must say I can get past the badge, I did say that slightly tongue in cheek...they offer really sensible vfm....my other choice is from a German marque and they are insanely good value at present.....so we will perhaps see...;)
