Taimar front wheel bearing / felt washer question

Quick question on Taimar front wheel bearing, particularly the felt washer. I just took one upright apart and the felt washer was last to come off, ie was facing the upright. It looked to me that the metal bracket had separated and been put on backwards at some point.

Can I check the correct orientation for the washer pls with someone who knows as I can't find a convincing answer on t'interweb. Should the felt side face the upright and the metal backing plate be against the inside of the bearing or should the felt be next to the bearing)?

The grease looked like it had been mixed with cement, so needless to say the bearings were pretty rough :-(

Felt facing towards you massage some oil into it as well before fitting at least that's what I was told
PS I made that mistake as well so that's how I know

and get some proper bearing grease to prevent it being like 'cement' !

Thanks chaps. Re-assembly starts tomorrow morning
