Hi folks

Never been to an event like this but have tickets for Sunday (including Grandstand).

I see the weather is set to turn on Sunday with rain expected ...do they run the dragstrip in the rain ? What happens if it is raining ?

Taking along my 10 year old boy & hoping it's at least a dry morning as he's been looking forward to it for ages.

Also, planning to get there around 10am....I've no concept of how big an event this is....will I be queuing to get in etc or is it all fairly smooth to actuall get in etc

Any other advice (apart from bring your ear defenders :-))

Thanks
Steve

No they don't race in the rain , the track is sprayed with glue and it is very slippery when wet combine that with slicks and you can see why. The weather forecast does not look good but ive been many times when its supposed to rain and had a great days racing if its at all possible the Pod crew will get the track ready to race on

This is not an event on the 2 FIA rounds scale but still a lot going on even if wet

If it gets rained off there's usually a discount on another event so keep your ticket

If its fine youll be back for the FIA round the end of May I,m sure

I suggest you get there earlier as it starts at 9.30

As Phil says above, we pray for dry weather. Drag racing is like cricket -- rain stops play. However, if a rainoff is called, a value will be allocated to your ticket which holds for a further year.

The Festival Of Power is a family entertainment with a full programme of serious Sportsman racing plus exhibitions and testing by Pro racers (jet cars too) and the first round of the MSA British Drag Racing Championship, the wild and woolly Pro Mods. There is free access to the paddock, so be sure to have a good look around. Plenty of other attractions scheduled too, on the ground and in the air.

I made my first visit to Santa Pod at Easter. It was wet, chilly and miserable, and not much seemed to be happening. I left after a short while feeling unimpressed, but something about it drew me back again.

That was Easter 1967, by the way.

Bit of a nasty crunch today at the Peak Performance practise. Wild Bunch slingshot got out of shape just after the burnout and hit the first armco centre barrier and promptly bent it and the chassis.

Will oblige, thought it might help describe the situation a bit better to those who didn't see it or wondered why the driver wasn't running.

Not the best handling car though, can't remember what the final wall count was on that, but it had at least one Christmas tree!

The CI / Tramm Nova is a mean bit of kit though! Hope they get to grips with that quick as that'll make an exciting field adding another turbo car!

Get there early. If its wet, plenty of other stuff going on. Take a wander around the pits. Most teams are happy to talk and let you take pics.

OP..
If it does rain for a percentage of the day and the event is un-raceable, (no such word ), you can reclaim the value of you tickets for another event.

It has happened to me twice in the past two years. Santa Pod are pretty fair when it come to this.

Hopefully, you will have a fantastic time.. Update us ... photos too !!!

I always plan to camp depending on the weather so buy tickets the night before hence we had Fri/Sat camping. Just got back from taking my six year old for a couple of days, we camped behind the pits and it was magic going to sleep to the sound of V8's being tuned. There is so much for kids you will hardly see any racing, free circus, free stunt shows, BMX displays, globe of death & £7.50 monster truck rides (was actually really good) plus a funfair.
Jet cars racing side by side was the highlight for us both, plus the facilities have really improved since I was there last, will be going again smile

Yes, please do. So much better when the sun shines.

Phone Santa Pod (01234 782828) to ask if any rainoff value has been allocated to your day's ticket.

Round 1, FIA European Championship (formerly known as The Main Event), Spring Bank Holiday weekend, 23-26 May.

Yeh please come back....as RJW said, get your rain off value and come back for one of the European events...or any of the other events for that matter.....it's an incredible sport when things go right....and when it goes right there is nothing like it on the planet
