At the risk of upsetting everyone with yet another "what is best wax" post on PH.

As per Aston's recommendation, I bought the entire range of Autoglym products and did the whole malarkey on my 2000 DB7 Vantage in Mendip Blue metallic.
Not impressed.

On my light coloured previous car (TVR) I used Zymol products, particularly the wax and it was terrific.

While researching an alternative to Autoglym for the AM, I inevitably came across folk saying that there are better waxes than Zymol out there.
So my questions are (particularly to Mendip Blue owners):

If Zymol, Carbon or Concours?
If not Zymol, what about Swissvax, if so which one?
If none of the above, what do YOU find utterly stunning with this colour?

Thank you for any advice you can give

Of those two, Concours.

Prep is the key though.

Thanks V8LM.
Yes, I did wonder if my prep was less than perfect with the Autoglym but I am pretty used to the form and a bit anal about prep so I think the lacklustre end result was down to the product.

That's 1 for concours.

Cheers

Which AG wax did you use? The High Def one is not normally too bad.

Yes the High Definition. I also found it a devil to buff and left chalky debris in the panel joints.

This thread is going to run!

I use Swissvax Mirage on mine and am very pleased with the results. Also used Dodo Juice Diamond White for a silver VW and love the results and price of this one.

Thanks Jimbo

It shouldn't be too bad as I did kinda restrict it to Mendip Blue Astons wink
Who would have thought the colour of the car and the paint type would affect what you should wax it with. I would have thought shiny is shiny.... clearly not (unless I am the victim of marketing BS)

Look you lot, you're all killing me with kindness. I'll never say no of course haha.

Right then, first thing is, how old is the car and has it been carefully washed from New? The thing is, the biggest difference you can make to paintwork is to machine polish it, the wax is there to add protection and a small percentage of gloss.

So what's your budget?

No messing about there then Paddy. he he

The car has been cared for. In fact up until I got it (sep 2013) it hadn't been driven in the rain since it was born in 2000!!
That said, it does have a few areas of light swirls in the right light and the odd light scratch. And the inevitable stone chip on the front end.

Budget? well I have bought all Zymol before so I understand the costs if I am going to do it myself. I realise you are professional detailer, so I should disclose that I would have difficulty justifying the cost of getting you up here in Scotland to do it for me, so no, we are talking DIY budget here.
Not sure I trust myself with a polishing machine.

Does that help you?

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Hmm I didn't really answer your budget question.
I suppose if it cost £300 - £400 in products and I got a good result I would be okay with that.

Better?

Lovely looking car - classic design that will never date. Is Mendip Blue otherwise known as Rolls Royce Blue by Aston?

No, slightly different. Mendip was one of the launch colours of the DB7 - they were named after hills (Cotswold, Pennine, Cheviot, Malvern, Chiltern, Quantock, Mendip and Brecon).

A DB7 will take two days to do it properly. And long days at that!

Actually, they are 19 inch wheels, not 20s. You must've just 'forgot'.
