Hi all
Upon opening my fuel tank today after the car had got particularly hot in a traffic jam the tank vented about 2 litres of fuel in vapour at me and popped back into shape. Not particualrly a problem or I guess dangerous unless you are smoking at the time but certainly disconcerting and a touch scary for the other people at the other pumps!

Is this common or is this a blocked vent / filter or something? All ideas or insight appreciated.

Sounds like a venting problem. It could be the carbon canister which is where the fuel tank vents. May be either full of fuel or the carbon damaged. Not sure what car you have, so can't comment on where it's located. On a mk1 Tuscan, it's in the drivers side wing compartment behind the headlights.

I've just changed mine (Andy at APM actually did it) due to a similar issue. It is a Ford part. I bought one from ebay which fitted fine. Part number 1S4X9D653AA.

On the T350 its in the passenger side rear wheel arch.

Sorry don't have a better pic.

[EDIT] The venting is generally poor on the car. You have to be careful to only slowly fill the tank at the pump station and on warm days the filler generally spits some fumes while opening.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info.

My Chim used to be a bit gassy when you opened the fuel tank but this was something else. The fuel tank popped and creaked loudly enough for people to look over at the car and the tank was venting vapour for 30 seconds or so!

It has been a bit of a rough start to my relationship with my Tam, hopefully things will get better!!!
