Speed traps how to avoid

I didn't say cc was preferable to a limit, I support the limit especially in town.
You said why would I want to set a minimum speed, cc is not a minimum and do not understand your comment on that, if I set 30 in town, that is not a minimum, that the maximum which I do not want to exceed. On motorways I set 70, that is not a minimum, that's the maximum I want to drive at.
Your No.2 new one on me, any evidence to support it?
You mention slipping shoes off, personally I have driven with shoes on and off, I have driven in military steel toed capped boots, and in trainers, never noticed any difference. But me thinks you were joking there.
And I support that cars should be fitted with limiters, with all the goings on when driving through towns, it would elevate you having to keep looking at the speedo, especially where the limit is now 20.
Cruise allows you to increase speed above the set speed and if you then fake your foot of the accelerator it will only drop back to the cruise limit. That's why I say it's a minimum. As soon as you drop below the cruise speed it cancels and you have to resume. A speed limit will stay in force. You said why would I want to set a minimum speed, cc is not a minimum and do not understand your comment on that, if I set 30 in town, that is not a minimum, that the maximum which I do not want to exceed. In an emergency stop it's largely an instinctive reaction. Where is your foot prior to the stop in cruise. On the floor short of the accelerator? Maybe lightly forward of that and the toe under the brake? I can't recall the part of the brain that auto responds to crisis but it's fine in the subconscious and an emergency stop is such an event. Braking from the accelerator is something done subconsciously all the time once you've learnt to drive. Braking from the floor is not.
Many cars now have a rest for the left foot next to the clutch, there is no place for the right other than the accelerator pedal.
The slippers was a joke, although I imagine there are drivers out there who do all sorts of things with their feet with cruise on. Just because you don't doesn't mean others wouldn't. Why allow someone to do so?
I've still not heard a single advantage of cruise over a limit

Never said my wife is goign to ignore road signs, not pay attention to speed limits, (and she has been pretty good in doing that in 25 years with no fines and crash) switch off the brain and switch on the gps system etc.
Just wanted something that helps (and given that it is legal it seems that nobody really believes that it is not ok to have those things)
She made a mistake (but she did not deliberately choose to exceed the limit as you said you did) got a deserved fine and she will do the speed awareness course (very good refresher) and pay
I have only asked

Are there legal devices that can be used?
The navigation system in the car cannot be updated to include the speed detectors.
What is the best legal solution? Are there devices that will alert if you exceed the speed limit regularly or at least when you are getting close to a control?
Now if you post without answering and reading and write silly road safety lessons then I guess I have all the right to The navigation system in the car cannot be updated to include the speed detectors.

Now we also have your lesson on speed limiter and cruise control. You should go and teach (maybe at a Speed awareness course)
We will probably use (probably also myself) some of those aids while you keep on studying and then we will see who will still maintain a clean driving license

Your wife has doomed us all. Going at 38 in a 30 has opened the gates of hell. Even now, demons and devils spew forth and the apocalypse begins.
I should just have asked the questions with no reference to her and I would have avoided a lot of mr perfects

On a long drive, cc makes a comfortable drive, better mpg, personally I would rather set cc on, take foot of pedel and concentrate on the road, I see no point on long motorway drives setting a limiter up and having have to keep my foot on the pedel.
Each to their own, both have merits, there probably are some who don't even like auto boxes. Anyway safe driving.

I've had one of these for years (an older model) and it does the job.

Thanks (that was a road she did not know)
With todays' cars somethimes it is difficult not to exceed the speed limit and I do not want her to spend most of her time in the car looking for the speed limit panel and checking the speed (and then maybe missing a children who is crossing the road)
Do you know if things like road angel etc are legal in UK (not to go around with 2 GPS)?
Tell her to give up driving, seems incompetent to me. I have been driving 45 years, never had a ticket for speeding, because I don't.

I have a Mk1 road Angel, it came with the car and has a detector extension on the dash for I suspect laser?I've had one of these for years (an older model) and it does the job.
It can be updated manually, so if a new camera pops up, a quick press of the buttons and it's in the memory.
Although I don't zoom about everywhere, it has alerted me to cameras on numerous occasions, some hidden behind signs and bushes.
I am in the 85 percentile group, as I truly believe the limits are set for the least capable.
Lower the limits and let less able drive safely, so as to be taxed.
It happened back in the 70's when the Gov complained to the Testers about being too strict and costing them revenue.
So OP, get her a Road Angle.
I've got a modern Road Angel. I'm not sure it's much use at detecting live camera vans - the only thing the laser detector has detected so far is the sun, and it's never gone off when I've passed a van.
But it is very good at reminding me where cameras are and where camera vans sit so I can obey the speed limit for a few hundred yards.

25 years without a fine or causing an accident and one speeding ticket while taking a friend to the doctor for an emergency? I am sure she is safer than most of the people here
No I am not concerned she pose a risk for her and the others
No she wasn't, you make it sound as if there were some sort of emergency which gives her an excuse to be slightly above the limit. No I am not concerned she pose a risk for her and the others

Read your OP again and you state that she was bringing her friend BACK from A&E
I use a snooper 3zero
I drive the A90 quite often and its riddled with cameras, fixed and mobile
very good bit of kit, £130 to buy, £30 per year subscription for unlimited updates
just sits on the dash and scans ahead
its the only detector that picks up all lazer types and also works from gps positions to warn you of fixed cameras and high risk areas

Not sure if it will already have been mentioned, but I use Co-Pilot SatNav App on my iPhone (also available for Andriod).
The app is approx £20 and will display speed limit on any given road at all times (option from the settings menu). You can also select at what point above the speed limit it audibly alerts you that you are exceeding the speed limit.
So for example set an audible alert for 5mph over any given speed limit and it'll go off like an alarm if you exceed 35 in a 30. Not to mention it's a really good SatNav app too

From Aberdeen to Dundee numerous cameras, I just put cc on 70 and relax, (apart from that short bit which is 50), always makes me smile when some keep anchoring up as soon as a camera comes into view.I drive the A90 quite often and its riddled with cameras, fixed and mobile

It's only an hour drive, I don't seem any point in taking a chance, sounds like your bit of kit keeps you on the straight and narrow.

I think PH has really lost the plot in the last few years. Half the time its response to threads like this sounds more like BRAKE.
Used to be the case that people could ask in this forum as to the most effective way to minimise the consequences of being done for speeding or avoid them altogether, and get plenty of sensible advice. The only vituperation came from those who were fed up of essentially the same questions being asked over and over again, and there wasn't really too much of that.
These days it seems that the majority response to such questions has changed to sanctimonious idiots attacking the questioner and telling him he deserves everything he gets, as if he'd actually done something wrong. He hasn't. He's allowed his speed to exceed an arbitrary number on a stick, in so doing causing precisely zero harm of any description to anyone. Therefore, any artificially-imposed consequences are entirely undeserved and there is nothing wrong with seeking to minimise or avoid them. Yes, it may be illegal to exceed the limit, but that's not the same as wrong. The set of all things that are illegal intersects with the set of all things that are wrong, it is not a wholly-contained subset of it.
Thank god those days are over, and the self-righteous simpleton statists who never properly consider any fact which might conflict with their desperate urge to control others have fked off again, eh?Used to be the case that people could ask in this forum as to the most effective way to minimise the consequences of being done for speeding or avoid them altogether, and get plenty of sensible advice. I once hired a car with not only cc, but a speed limiter in. Wouldn't it help if cars had a button you could push and set a limiter to 30 for town driving, most cars seem to,have no end of gizmos, why not one of these.
If you feel you need a limiter to control your driving, your driving can't be up to much. My TomTom is set to bleep when the road speed limit is exceeded and it also glows red to warn you when the limits keep moving up and down all courtesy of the local and very cosy speed, aka safety camera partnership. Shouldn't it be renamed the 'scamera partnership'?
Perhaps the OP should comply with the paranoid speed kills brigade and just drive around at 30mph. Several years ago I noticed the local speed scamera van speeding between his favoured kill range, oops safety parking zones, so watched as he accelerated up behind me, then I slowed down and down (because I remembered speed kills officer) until he was snarling over my back bumper, and much to my amusement the oncoming traffic stopped him from overtaking, and we drove along like happy bunnies for five miles before I turned off, well you should have seen him floor the accelerator pedal, and gods honest truth, he must have hit 60mph or more in a 40 speed limit in his quest to increase his speed revenue.
Nowadays I have a dashcam recording everything, so next time he plays bully-boy tactics I won't bother reporting his actions to the local plod, instead, the video will be uploaded onto YouTube and every other video sharing site I can think of so that everyone else can see just how badly they drive.
As for the safety camera partnership signs 'It's 30mph for a reason' I really do fancy writing "It's for the tax revenue', or perhaps '£££", or worse...
