E46 318 ticking sound

I have recently noticed a ticking sound coming from the front of my engine bay, it dose not get faster or slower when the revs increase. At first I though it may be something to do with the timing belt but then learn it is a chain?? Anyone got any ideas what this could be or if it is just something I am being parinoid about

It's a chain, but they do stretch / the tensioner can break

Worth get properly checked out to avoid any damage, any other symtoms ie lacking in power?

I have not noticed any other issues apart from the ticking
