Classifieds - Is this really the best you could do?

I normally browse the classifieds on my ipad (which has a whole other set of issues) but today I needed to use the laptop so thought I would check the classifieds whilst on it.

I thought it might be due to addons but I turned them all off and that is the screenshot.

It strikes me as terrible design. Why is the banner add not in the black rectangle to the right of the PH logo. This would free up the 20% of the screen and so move up the selection boxes to a point where there are more than 5 options to tick without having to scroll down?

And another bug bear, when I click D for example why does it not take me to the makes beginning with D? This works very well on every other site ever invented!

You do like to make things a lot more difficult than they need to be!

I find non of the adverts display properly on my macbook pro in safari. Chrome is marginally better. Even on the PC and IMac I find it slow to load and very poorly laid out....
