After 2+ year's ownership of my S3, I have finally seen another S on the open road (apart from at Blackpool last September that is). I think it was reg no TVR 425S (green) arriving at Southport this morning. Then again at the same roundabout about 2 hours later! Anyone on here?

That contributed to quite an eventful 24 hours in the life of my S3. Yesterday, I suffered my first breakdown!!! Having been without the car for nearly a month, with trailing arm, brakes, etc, then 2 MOT's, I finally had some time to wash it, then of course the customary drive to make sure the brakes were dry.

So, just heading out of town with my son as co-driver, pulled away from a set of lights, then power just died, engine cut out. It would turn over but no spark. Because I had coasted half onto a high kerb, as road was not too wide, I could only partially open bonnet, checked all wires were connected, nothing obvious.

Recovery man arrived after hour and a half (his brother in law owns Track V Road in Clitheroe by the way). He had a look at the distributor cap and suggested it was probably Rotor and cap that needed changing, so on the back of a wagon we go.

Oh, the shame of being seen (I live on a main road) having my TVR unloaded infront of my house. My wife was quick to photograph and post on facebook for the benefit of my friends. I was very grateful for that!

Anyway, this morning I was eager to get the new parts, but luckily had the old dizzy and rotor from when I swapped them 2 year ago. They looked exactly the same condition as the ones on the car!! So I decided to use my 'very' limited mechanic skills and started checking connections. Got to the second LT connection on the coil, and when I removed it, the 'ring connector'? drooped, held on by a thin strand of insulation! Quick visit to Halfords, dug out my old soldering iron, and Eureka! She Lives. smile

It's good to have it back.

Excellent work to spot the problem.

I hope Mr Recoveryman's brother in law would have done a better job of getting you back on the road sooner!
