Sure is, standard issue with V6 S series.

If you look close you may just make out the packing piece for the quick shift.

Close up, save you squinting smile

What difference do you think it will make? At what cost?

A far more "positive" feel and reverse easier to find!

Cost = a new gasket
a new tailshaft oil seal
a tin of Quality Street for the guy who did the welding smile

...... and a day on my back struggling the box out and back in (I'm getting too old for this hehe )

ETA .... a a tenner for a gearstick off Ebay

Just a bit of strengthening, guy who did the welding said that would be better than trying to weld down where the two "circles" meet if you know what I mean?
Not very pretty but who's going to see it!

Hi Mike, interesting. I am (very!) well aware of the reverse issue although I sorted it on mine rather more easily, but I would be interested to know exactly what you have done. To help me understand would you mind posting a bit more detail?

Originally got the idea when I bought a car mag to read on the plane, going on holiday somewhere or other, there was an article on fitting the type 9 to a Spitfire (I think it was) and the company doing them were shortening the tail housing rather than the TVR cranked gear lever idea.

Bit more research and I found this article

Have a spare box so was able to get a tail housing and selector rod ready before pulling my box (and if it all went t*ts up I'd still have my gearbox in the car untouched)!

Thanks for that, how very interesting, that is a new one on me. In fairness to TVR I can see why they couldn't risk compromising the new type 9 boxes, but the shortened selector mechanism is fundamentally a better arrangement. Given that the type 9 is an exceptionally good box, doing that mod should restore the 'feel' to the excellent feel the box normally has and which is lost a bit in the TVR.
Great forum, something interesting nearly every day!

I did note one thing that hadn't changed; that man cave is FAR too tidy for my likings! I wouldn't feel at all at home in there hehe
