A far more "positive" feel and reverse easier to find!
Cost = a new gasket
a new tailshaft oil seal
a tin of Quality Street for the guy who did the welding
...... and a day on my back struggling the box out and back in (I'm getting too old for this )
ETA .... a a tenner for a gearstick off Ebay

To help me understand would you mind posting a bit more detail?
Originally got the idea when I bought a car mag to read on the plane, going on holiday somewhere or other, there was an article on fitting the type 9 to a Spitfire (I think it was) and the company doing them were shortening the tail housing rather than the TVR cranked gear lever idea.Bit more research and I found this article
Have a spare box so was able to get a tail housing and selector rod ready before pulling my box (and if it all went t*ts up I'd still have my gearbox in the car untouched)!
Thanks for that, how very interesting, that is a new one on me. In fairness to TVR I can see why they couldn't risk compromising the new type 9 boxes, but the shortened selector mechanism is fundamentally a better arrangement. Given that the type 9 is an exceptionally good box, doing that mod should restore the 'feel' to the excellent feel the box normally has and which is lost a bit in the TVR.
Great forum, something interesting nearly every day!
