To be fair I don't think a media company should be reporting the result of an event they are spending £15m a year to show. Strictly Come Dancing is filmed all on a Saturday night but BBC News does not spoil the result before the results show is shown on Sunday evening. Further, the people who would actually care about the result of the F1 are the very same people who will want to watch the race later. Someone with no desire to watch racing cars isn't going to pay much attention to the news that Hamilton won his third race in a row either so why bother reporting it.
To be fair, with all the channels and data sources we have, I doubt anyone who wants to know the result of a sporting event would rely on the news for it anyway. I sky+ the itv london evening news, which seems increasingly futile being as it is up to 50% football (why when you have a 24hr channel dedicated 95% to football news do they still figure there's a need to see aresene fkface wenger wittering on about his silly game every sodding night?) and mostly the rest being whichever stories being dragged out ad nauseuem this month eg stephen lawrence. They seem completely unable to come to terms with the media age, with such daft gestures as "here's a teaser for an interesting story- but you'll have to look at our website for more!" I'M WATCHING MY TELLY NOT SAT AT MY PC YOU INCREDIBLE wkING RETARDS.

I realise I've gone massively off topic here, so should probably point out itv are the channel who actually preceded a formula 1 replay when they had coverage in the 90's with one of those utterly pointless 5 minute "news and weather updates" with guess what...

It wouldn't take much extra effort for the news team to add ' look away now..' if the bbc hasn't shown the highlights yet.

If i remember, when i set the recorder i then turn the tv channel to cbeebies or some channel that will NOT tell the result when i turn the tv on next time, also i hit mute with my eyes closed when i turn the box on! The worst is if i'm in a shop where they have the radio on, i've ran out of a shop before! Also if i'm working in someones house, i ask them if they don't mind turning the tv/radio down! Also i get my wife to check all texts, as my mates will text me the result just to wind me up. Also, if i go to meet people, i say straight away, 'don't tell me the result'' hard if you don't know everybody all that well.

If you don't want to know the result, then avoid all contact with news and motoring related websites and TV channels.

It's not difficult.

Or just watch the race live. smile

Simpo Two started a thread after last GP saying the news said 'look away now' now but still said the result out loud...

your right guys but a spoiler alert would be nice.

but would love to have it back on BBC
Why?????

If you want to watch the race without knowing the result then switch off the TV, switch off the radio and switch off the internet.

On Easter Sunday how hard is that?

There must be a million other things you can do on such a day other than watching news media surely?

Yesterday morning while the qualifying was going on live the sports presenter on BBC news said "If you don't want to know what's going on look away now" ..... thanks for the warning - I thought.
I caught a quick glimpse and quickly turned away (phew!) - and then the sports presenter went on to give a quick synopsis of what had happened up to that point banghead
It's you who should be hitting your head against a wall. If you don''t want to know a result, why are you watching sports news????!!!!

I once recall resisting the news even all Monday to not spoil it for me. I thought I was doing so well to have avoided all the news sites, web forums, social media etc, I got onto the train to go home and someone had left a Metro, sport side up, on the seat with Alonso glaring from the podium. I was gutted, but I still watched the race and took enjoyment from seeing who else was on the podium. Like a movie based on a true story, you know what happens but you still enjoy seeing how it plays out.

I wasn't avidly watching sports news - it just happened come on during the news. Not being glued to the TV I didn't have the remote to hand .... but that's not really the point ......

The presenter warned that it was coming on and to turn away if you didn't want to know what was happening.
At this point if it had been the latest result of a football match that they were going to be showing later they would have put up the latest result(s) in absolute silence before saying something like 'You can look back now'.
Not with F1 ..... You're warned to turn away but then they go on to tell you anyway!
As far as I'm aware warning people to turn away will only assist them in not seeing - but it won't stop them from hearing.

We live in a media hungry world, news and sport information is available anytime anywhere and tends to be shown whenever the opportunity arises.
We even used to put *****SPOILERS****** on official XYZ GP threads on here so people didn't come onto the motorsports forum to view the most obvious thread full of results and information because people complained they didn't want to see the results before they saw the race rolleyes

The number of times I have missed a race and heard the result is quite often, I don't get upset though, don't see the point, its the type of world we live in, if you don't want to know the result lock yourself in a dark room singing lalala until such a time you can see the race. Don't stress and start blaming everyone else, its not the end of the world is it....

Knowing the result doesn't tell the story of the race. I tend to avoid the media if I want to avoid the result but even knowing who wins (as was pretty obvious early on in the race anyway) doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching the racing further down the field.

Would've expected Dyson to wipe the floor with 'em.

I have sympathy for the OP, unintentionally finding out the result before you've had a chance to watch the race is very irritating. Just before the Melborne grand prix, I'd bought a new laptop which runs Windows 8.1. For those of you that don't know it, Windows 8.1 has an app-style splash page which presents you with the news, weather, e-mails etc when you boot up the machine. This didn't even cross my mind- I booted it up before watching the race and as soon as it started and found it's WiFi connection, the news page sprung up with a picture of Rosberg's ecstatic winning face. Try avoiding that! (and don't say "avoid starting the computer", as I was about to watch the race on the computer!)
Fear not, Windows 9 is to include a Time Warp Boot feature.

Won't stop you knowing who's going to win a F1 race before it begins, mind...

Or - person spends hours lopping trees etc in garden, fills eleventy twelve garden bags, fills car with said bags, starts car to go to tip but doesn't notice that it's 4 minutes past three, radio comes on when car starts, BBC broadcaster shouts LEWIS HAMILTON!!!!!!!!! just as radio is bludgeoned with fist to be silenced ... a couple of hours before the highlights prog is going to be broadcast...

What's the point? grumpy

New Laptop me too.

I now have an ever growing hatred for Windows 8.1 which knows no bounds. I have tried to like it but, do not. Change for the better is better than change for the worst.

Get these two very inexpensive and very effective utilities.

Start8 and ModernMix from Stardock.com.

It will make using Windows the experience it should be.

OK, I'm not sure about the Television News.... but I'll throw my hat into the ring on the topic of BBC news announcing results.

I use the BBC news app on my iPhone, it shows all news, not just sports. I like this app, it lets me read about world news, uk news, technology news and sports news. I am interested in all sports, rugby, football and F1.

My problem is, using the said app, is that the tile text often gives away the result. I wanted to read an article about the missing aeroplane for example, opened up the app and right there in front of me "Lewis Hamilton wins in China". Boooooom. Spoilt. They do it for the Qualifying too.

What would the BBC rather do? Change the text to say "Chinese F1 Results" so that I still use their app. Or leave it as is and I don't use it at all.
