I'm sorry but people nowadays are that conditioned to being arse raped for the tiniest of things they are actually glad when they perceive it as being let off lightly.

Its like thanking the school bully for only kicking you in the balls and not stabbing you. What heinous crime were you targeted for?

Or he could have been banged to rights and appreciated the civil way the officer dealt with him.

I've had the same myself where a very polite officer booked me, I was expecting the normal snotty attitude from the officer but was dealt with very politely.

They're just doing their job and if he pulls someone over who has broken the law AND is polite then he has done his job very well in my mind.

Just saying

Get off your high horse. Laws are there, if we travel above the speed limit, then we have to take whatever form of bking comes our way.

Some of us understand this.

If we care caught, and not punished to the full extent then why not?

Correct,i was taking the piss, and he was more than fair, leaving me the option of an awareness course. It should have been a court appearance.

Exactly! yes

I've been in the same situation as Roofer and was very grateful to the officers who stopped Me.

In a very similar scenario to the one Roofer has since revealed, I was stopped for driving at a "taking the pcensoreds" speed in the early hours one morning and to the letter of the Law, should have been facing a ban.

I was polite and honest with the officers about the speed I'd been traveling at and in return they were polite and about as far from being condescending as anyone could be.

Having had a brief and friendly chat about the realities of driving at "taking the pcensoreds" speeds and the dangers of what could go wrong, the officers informed Me that My speed was far too high for them not to take any action at all, but offered to make it a 3 points FPN offence instead of a guaranteed ban.

For that, just as with Roofer, I was very grateful because they didn't have to do it, I was bang to rights in the wrong.

Roofer: Nice car mate! - I've always liked the E34 M5.

Fully hand built, and unlike the M5's that followed it, with their M5 only mirrors, exhausts and vents, it's a proper Q-car that looks identical to the lesser models so you get less grief from all the muppets on the road who want to race everyone!

Because there's a difference between gratitude and polite acceptance.

Now the OP has elaborated, however, I can understand his post and the sentiment behind it.
