So guys, I'm picking an SL55 up at some point in the next couple of months (anyone selling black or blue please get in touch!) and I due to it not being a daily driver (I only do about 3k a yr now) I want it to sound as crazy as possible.

After hearing the above clip, I am in love with the sound of that car! Can anyone comment on what kind of mods that car would have had done to make it sound like that?

I understand a rear muffler and rear cat delete makes it sound a bit deeper and little louder, but I want it to sound like a monster... Especially since I plan on modding it to as ridiculous a stage as my budget allows...

You mean a straight through system? I assume that would cause trouble come MOT time....

I wonder what the closest legal sound would be here in the UK....

I would assume car has been tuned which will affect the noise it makes. I would get advice from a specialist who has done this before such as PCS or MSL. Would think headers, removing one set of cats and resonators, sports exhaust all these are options. Be careful what you do though as you need it to remain road legal and pass MOT. Being that loud hope you have understanding neighbours!!

Hoping to buy the car soon and just looking for where to look/what to look at... will be speaking to the popular tuners smile

As far as neighbours go, I drive very little at the moment, maybe 2-3k miles a year and it will remain that way, bar the odd journey between Leicester and London... so I can afford to put something silly sounding on biggrin

Doesn't quite sound like straight-through. I've heard my old CLK55 with just cats and no mid or rear muffler. ears

I suspect it's either got mids with no rear boxes or no mids and much smaller rears than standard.

Look how stupidly big the rears are:

This is what it will sound like without anything: http://youtu.be/mgMmPN0PfIo

Bit stupid really. Doesn't suit the car.

My car has rear boxes deleated and sounds like that when mild to heavey acceleration is being used, quite mild when tootling around.i think if I deleated the secondary cats it would sound like a hooligan all the time.easy to do and cheap also, good luck in your search.
