My young son (8 years) who is turning into a computer geek wants to make a film that he can upload to youtube of him using one of his simulator games.

He watches this guy a lot so this is the sort of thing he wants to recreate.

We've got a webcam and run a windows 7 pc, but he wants to be able to capture the screen shot with the computer without using the webcam to film it, but I have no idea what he needs to be able to do this. I'm guessing the webcam must come into play somehow otherwise his films with have no sound but I have no idea where to start on this and I am wary of him downloading programmes on to my pc that might contains a virus.

Has anyone any knowledge of this type of thing or do I need to find a specialised computer forum and ask those on there?

Thanks smile

Camtasia Studio from Techsmith.com is what he needs, maybe even their SnagIt product will do, it's cheaper.

Alternatively, there is open source software CamStudio (camstudio.org) that may do it for him, has to be worth a go given that it is free.

Thanks Muntu,

Tried the Camstudio but it just loaded a heap of other stuff and despite watching the tutorial vid, we couldn't get it to work.

Back to the drawing board frown

Try the Techsmith Camtasia Studio, IIRC you get a free 30 day trial snd it is extremely intuitive and easy to use
