Okay I'm going to be building a house on this plot of land, so here is my sketch so far. done in Paint from a Google map images so not the best quality laugh

red = my boundary
green = house going here
blue = swimming pool
pink = chain fences to contain dogs
yellow = gates
brown circles = trees/bushes I'll plant

I've just realised I haven't actually put any gates in for me to get into it! I'd put one gate near each end, on the front side.

I'm thinking if I do it like the pic above, I've got 10 small areas to keep 1 dog in each. These will be partially covered, and each contain a kennel etc. Each of these areas open out onto the bigger contained area... so I can let any dog(s) exercise in there and rotate them around as needed.

The brown circles will be to ensure neighbour can't see the dogs, and dampen sound etc too. I don't want them seeing into my garden whether I have dogs or not, so I'd be doing that anyway.

So if you had use of this land and you wanted to lay it out suitably for 10 dogs would there be a better way to do it than I'm proposing here? I can't simply let them all roam free as they may fight with each other / my own dogs etc. This is just temporary accommodation for these dogs.

edit - i'm not 100% sure but I think I have the pool on the right side of the house... I can't remember which way the architect said it'd face. Either way it could just all rotate round... I'd put the dogs at the opposite side of the house to the pool so they couldn't be seen or heard from there.

If you are going to be boarding other peoples dogs (as a business), there are reasonably strict guidelines to adhere to, in particular, noise, size of run/pen, temperature, insurance etc etc.

You are better off talking to your local council about the details, as they would be issuing the licence.

No license needed, and this isn't a commercial business. Its temporary storage for dogs that are homeless.

Ah fair do's.

Im still pretty sure the council might be 'interested' though, especially considering how close it is to your neighbours.

Good luck.

Edit:

I know its Hastings Council, but they are all much the same..

Particular note is 1.5

Also, i understand that most will need to be quarantined to start with.

The land is in Portugal so english laws have no relevance at all.

Who owns the plot next door to where the dogs will be?
What is it currently used for?
I think what you are doing is great btw smile

The land to the left is just orange trees, so no problem at all with having dogs next to that - nobody is going to complain about noise or anything.

You don't need to worry about dog noise in Portugal at all in any event!!

Legally, it doesn't matter but there is no sense in pissing of neighbours unnecessarily. So I want to lay it out in a way that won't inconvenience them...

My first question would be, your boundaries where you are looking to put the kennels, are the dogs from the nearby houses free and have access to those boundaries? If so I'd consider switching to the road side......

There is a road separating the north side, and on the west side the neighbouring roperty isn't fenced off at all - its just fruit trees so they don't seem to have any animals there at all.

I don't want to put the dogs at the front... as its going to ruin the view as you approach the property. I don't want to put them on the east side as it then borders the residential house on that side... doing it on the south/rear boundary seems the best/only way to do it?

Would it make more sense to keep the dogs away from the boundary and do it like this?
