Hi all,

Having recently sold some items on eBay I was slightly miffed off at their fees,

I have several lenses and bodies that I want to sell on but now hesitant to put the remainder on eBay because of said fees, sadly I would imagine most shops are out of the question as I'm looking to raise funds rather than P.ex against anything new

Do most people on here just suck up the fees and use eBay?

I always use gumtree to sell my electronics, usually manage to get around the same price as ebay but without the fees. It helps that I live in London though.

Talk Photography website is ok for selling stuff. You have to register on the forum and have a certain post count before you can become a seller but that is easy enough.

eBay + Paypal will cost you about 15% of the sale price but you're selling to the whole world, so the sale price (should) be higher. If the buyer collects and pays cash you save the Paypal fee (about 3.5%).

I sell a lot of electronics on AV forums, they have a kind of feedback service. Not sure on photographic gear, but with no fees, might be worth a punt

I stick with ebay because while the fees are relatively high it hits a fairly large audience and so far touchwood I've not had anyone pull a fastie on me.

I get the feeling with some forums that some of the members think they're onto a discount for being a forum member and see it as their duty to appraise the item I'm selling then give their ideal buy price. Usually that's around 30% less than what it'd sell for on the bay

I've tried Talk Photography for selling a couple of times, but found it a bit of a pain with people questioning why I wanted to sell it etc., which then put off anybody else from taking an interest! And if it's not absolutely mint then nobody seems interested. With ebay as said there is a larger audience at least.

E-bay is great for selling camera gear. The charges are a bit steep, but I've always found it to be worth it. People seem to get carried away with their bidding on camera stuff, I've sold a couple of lenses on there for more than I paid for them brand new smile

And for balance..... I've bought and sold all my gear via Talk PHotography.

Had no issues what so ever ,an personally fell less likely to be scammed there than eBay.
