So the Easter Thunderball became the Festival Of Power for no readily apparent reason. Now it seems the The Main Event is no more, and is simply being called the FIA/FIM European Championships Round 1. Does anyone know what the rationale is for these changes? It doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Not sure why , Round 1 does not sound as good to me as the Main event but i,m sure theres a good reason

Also any idea why the festival of power became only 3 days [unfortunatly bank holiday Monday the day missing was warm and sunny]

To me, the change to "Festival of Power" was to denote a nod more towards a demo/exhibition event in the ilk of the Flame & Thunder.

You'd have to assume it's down to money. I'd hazard a guess that they looked at their overheads and the expected number of people coming through the gates and decided they couldn't justify making it a 4 day event. I don't remember there being attendance problems at Easter in the past, but there did seem to be fewer people there this year.

No Auto-Trader involvement anymore so maybe it was to distance from the Auto-Trader Easter Thunderball as was it's full title?

The Main Event wasn't really the 'main' event was it?

Three days, I wondered if they'd flexed an optional extra day in case of adverse weather - but obviously not.

Poor attendance last year can hardly be a factor considering the arctic freeze covering the whole country.

Maybe the 'Easter' part was the problem, being a Christian religious holiday?

Regarding the Main Event (Big Go), is it because the FIA consider that name for that weekend should be reserved for the Monaco GP?

I believe it is this: the title 'The Main Event' was chosen by previous management for this late-May weekend before the FIA Championship existed. It has remained known as this within the drag racing community ever since.

However, for marketing purposes in the outside world, it is an inaccurate description. While a major event, it is not Santa Pod's main event; if anything, that would be the European Finals. So, to avoid confusion, the title 'Round 1 - FIA European Championship' has been adopted, which explains exactly what the event is.

Except it is not for the Sportsman racers and the event could not stand on its own with just the FIA circus... And the bike racers do not compete in a FIA championship either!
